Impressive when winning on debut at the Curragh, City Of Troy well and truly showed his Classic credentials when bounding to a dominant six-and-a-half length victory over Haatem in the Group 2 Superlative Stakes at Newmarket. Sent off an odds-on favourite for the Group 1 Dewhurst Stakes on only his third start, the Justify colt yet again unleashed a sensational turn of foot to bound to an authoritative three-and-a-half length victory over Alyanaabi and the Aidan O'Brien-trained raider is now a red-hot jolly for the Guineas.
The Ballydoyle team, and in particular O'Brien, have always talked highly of City Of Troy, but his jockey Ryan Moore has also been uncharacteristically positive about the colt's ability and Moore will head into the winter knowing that he has a really top notch ride in the 2000 Guineas. Providing he trains on then City Of Troy will be the one to beat.
O'Brien has trained a record-breaking 10 winners of the 2000 Guineas throughout his illustrious career and while City Of Troy will fly the flag for Ballydoyle they are likely to have a decent second and third string. Henry Longfellow has been another impressive two-year-old during 2023 and is well fancied for team Ballydoyle. The unbeaten Dubawi colt won a Group 2 at the Curragh on only his second start, but it was his eye-catching five length win in the Group 1 National Stakes at the Curragh that has seen him take a prominent place in the ante-post betting for the 2024 2000 Guineas.
