Horse Racing Tips: Barrowdale to strike for McCain at Carlisle
Having picked out 11/8 and 7/2 winners in yesterday's column, we shall attempt to point you in the right direction of more winners on Thursday and punters are treated to five racing meetings today. The action kicks off over the sticks at Carlisle at 13:00, while there's alternative National Hunt racing from Wincanton and Thurles. There's a brace of all-weather Flat fixtures on offer as well, with Southwell's action beginning at 13:45, while Newcastle's evening meeting will get underway at 18:00 and racing concludes in the north east at 20:30.
Donald McCain and Bryan Hughes have become a red-hot partnership at northern race tracks, and the pair will look to record more success on Thursday as they team up with Barrowdale in the 13:35 at Carlisle. A winner on his second hurdle start at Uttoxeter last time out, the seven-year-old is an 11/8 shot to land victory once again, and he's proven extremely popular among our racing tipsters. Steve Mullington, who sits second in the naps table, is among three of the racing tipsters that have put up Barrowdale as their best bet of the day, so is he certainly one to watch out.
The other popular selection and a horse napped by three tipsters is the David Barron-trained Western Music, who is a 15/8 chance to land the spoils in the 15:30 at Southwell. A course and distance winner last month, Western Music was unable to follow up at Newcastle last time out, but a return to Southwell on Thursday can bring the best out of him and he can hand the likes of Templegate and Newsboy a winning nap today.
With a superb profit of £54.21, Farringdon is topping the naps table, and the red-hot tipster will look to build on a fine 6/4 winner on Wednesday, and the Morning Star tipster heads to Newcastle's evening fixture for the best bet of the day. Selecting 5/1 chance Tathmeen in the 18:30 race, Farringdon will hope that the five-times course winner can break a long losing streak, and now 7lbs lower than his last winning mark the seven-year-old looks a leading player.
We have two double-figured priced naps among Thursday's tips and the first one comes from Andy Morris, who has put John Quinn's Possible Ambition in the 18:00 at Newcastle. A course and distance winner two starts ago, Quinn's charge failed to taste victory last time out, but he's not one to write off, and at 16/1 looks an eye-catching selection.
Meanwhile at Carlisle, Jedd O'Keeffe's 12/1 chance Burrow Seven has been napped by Jeffrey Ross from the Western Morning News in the 13:35 contest, and the five-year-old will face a stiff test to down the abovementioned Barrowdale, but he has shown some potential in his three career starts to date.
