Billaway, a warm order for the 2022 Hunters' Chase at the Cheltenham Festival, is one of 31 entries for this year's event which will take place on Friday 18th March. Check out the latest list of runners here...
Runner-up in both the 2020 and 2021 Hunters' Chase, the Willie Mullins-trained Billaway is attempting to finally get his day in the limelight on the final day of the Cheltenham Festival, and the ten-year-old is the star attraction in the list of entries for the contest, which takes place at 16:10 on Gold Cup day. A winner at Naas last month, the Closutton inmate could face some notable opposition in the shape of Winged Leader, who beat him in a Thurles Hunters' Chase earlier in the season. Set to make his Cheltenham Festival debut, Winged Leader is the current clear second favourite for the contest, and is going in search of a sixth win on the spin.
With reigning champion Porlock Bay not among the list of entries then there will be a new name on the trophy and Paul Nicholls could unleash a David Maxwell-owned trio in the race with Bob And Co, Cat Tiger and Shantou Flyer all earning an entry in the race. Maxwell, who is sure to ride one of his mounts is likely to have a tough choice as all three sit below 16/1 in the betting, so it shall be interesting to see which Ditcheat inmate he partners.
Pont Aven was a runaway 16-length winner at Ludlow in February and catapulted his name into the Hunters' Chase picture, and is now available at single figured prices with the bookmakers, and could take his chance, while the Robert Waley-Cohen-trained Jett, who ran a fine race in last year's Grand National (finished 8th) is another that jumps off the page when looking at the 31-strong entry list.
Cousin Pascal was a shock 66/1 winner of the Hunters' Chase at Aintree last April, where he beat Latenightpass in a career best and that pair are set to lock horns once again at Cheltenham, while others of note that could feature prominently in an intriguing race include Dubai Quest and Premier Magic.
