Newmarket July Festival 2022 Day 2 Tips: Check out Friday's best bets for the ITV action

Day Two of the July Festival at Newmarket comes to us on Friday afternoon with the headline act of course being the superstar Inspiral in the Falmouth Stakes. She is a predictably short price for the Group One and so Billy Grimshaw has looked elsewhere on the card for his best bets of the day...
13:50 Newmarket - bet365 Handicap
Charlie Appleby and Godolphin have a very strong hand in this open looking handicap, with William Buick aboard favourite and first string New London and James Doyle riding third favourite Natural World. The favourite was last seen disappointing behind Changingoftheguard at Chester in a Derby trial. He was sent off 4/11 and looked to be Godolphin's leading Derby hope but he was beaten out of sight by six and a half lengths in the end. He will be on a retrieval mission here but if finding the form he produced back in April at this track should be bang there. Yonafis splits the royal blue pair in the market for William Haggas and he was eighth in the Britannia last time out. On that performance this step up in trip should suit him and he must be respected for an in form yard.
Swilcan Bridge was victorious last time out at Epsom but it was a bunched finish and with a slight weight swing as well as possibly not sweating up at the start I fancy WAR HORSE to be able to reverse the form for Marco Botti and Andrea Atzeni. With most bookmakers offering extra places this looks a good each-way punt to kick off the televised contests, The son of Sea The Stars has seemed to improve with each run this campaign and doesn't look at the end of his upward curve yet.

14:25 Newmarket - Duchess of Cambridge Stakes
MAWJ looks a good bet to me in this race. The two year old filly looked a star in the making back at Newmarket in May when sauntering to a debut success by four and a quarter lengths from Believing in a Novice's race. She won that race at 12/1, indicating the performance caught connections a bit by surprise, but was sent off a strong 2/1 favourite in the Albany ahead of Ballydoyle's Meditate. She eventually could only manage second behind Aidan O'Brien's star but that still represents smart form and I think the first two home that day will go on to be top class.
Maylandsea is the favourite at the time of writing and undoubtedly she has similar claims to the selection, after finishing roughly the same distance behind the impressive Dramatised in the Queen Mary at Royal Ascot. However, I think the challenge of today's race could suit Mawj and would have them the other way round in the market. This six runner race has three at very short prices with Lezoo for Frankie and Ralph Beckett also well found in the market at around 5/2. This could be a messy race with plenty of potential for spoiling tactics but Mawj to my eye looks the one to be with.

15:00 Newmarket - bet365 Trophy
On first glance this looks a mega tricky handicap for punters to try to solve, and as is the norm these days there are plenty of extra places on offer from bookmakers in the hope of enticing in each-way bets in such a stacked field. Contact will be looking to improve on a good third last time out at Royal Ascot and is well up the odds lists for David and Nicola Barron, while Midnights Legacy comes here looking to back up his nose victory at Epsom in early June. This was a smart performance and if he repeats or improves it he should be in the shake-up. Further down the list, Uber Cool could be an interesting runner at 20/1 or bigger but in truth I think they could all have a job on here to beat the selection.
CANDLEFORD did punters a massive favour at Royal Ascot when a well backed favourite 7/2 favourite in the Duke Of Edinburgh Stakes. He was one of the most impressive winners of the week, in the end scoring by six lengths from Ajeero with the aforementioned Contact in third. He faces a massive hike in the weights for today's contest but I don't think it will make much difference. This is a group horse in a handicap and I see him shortening and shortening as post time edges closer before putting in another dominant performance and heading into Group races next time out.

Newmarket 16:10 - Arioneo Handicap
I promise this is the last time I ever have faith in this one if he once again bombs out, but I just can't leave MUMS TIPPLE alone at double figure prices. t's now eleven runs since his last win in 2021, and he looked near enough gone at the game at Royal Ascot when plodding on for 16th of 29 last time out. He will be top weight for today's contest and obviously running like he has been doing recently will see him nowhere near the money. However, if somehow Richard Hannon can spark something back in him he has the ability to run these rivals ragged and I can't resist recommending a small win only play on him as I think he either wins this or bombs out once more.
Nizaaka is favourite for this race and has an obvious chance for the Jane Chapple-Hyam team, who are having a stunning season. He is in form after a win three weeks ago and could have more improvement in him so has a favourite's chance but looks a little skinny in the odds for me. Ataser ended a winless run stretching back two years last time out and has only risen 4lbs in the weights so could be a live chance if maintaining his form, while Lord Rapscallion is on a long losing run himself but has been running with credit in his recent races. Nothing in the field to me looks like they can hit the heights Mums Tipple once scaled, however, and so he is the tentative pick.
