Juddmonte International Stakes Odds: Baaeed a red-hot favourite following Goodwood win
Superstar miler Baaeed made it a perfect nine wins from nine outings at Glorious Goodwood, as the four-year-old cruised to victory in the Group 1 Sussex Stakes. Dominant in the eight-furlong division, the William Haggas-trained son of Sea The Stars is set to try and emulate his sire by landing victory in the Juddmonte International Stakes at York next month...
A winner way back in 2009, Sea The Stars was a revelation in the middle distance division, and his progeny have sparkled on a racecourse in recent times, but in Baaeed he appears to have produced an absolute star who has beaten all-comers in the one mile division, and Haggas is ready to step him up to 1m 2f for the Juddmonte International Stakes, which is regarded as one of the biggest races on the Flat racing calendar.
Showing a magnificent turn of foot throughout the career, Baaeed yet again produced a masterclass in the Sussex Stakes on day two of the Glorious meeting, as he quickened away from decent performers to extend his 100% record, and Haggas is now all systems go to step him up to ten furlongs and have a crack at the Juddmonte on the Knavesmire.
Unsurprisingly, he's a dominant figure in the betting and is now a best-priced 4/7 favourite to claim glory in the coveted Group 1 prize, and make it ten from ten. Showing his dominance in the closing stages, Baaeed should be able to excel over the Juddmonte trip and with news that Derby hero Desert Crown won't be heading to York then the Haggas charge is sure to be tough to beat.

John & Thady Gosden's Mishriff was a fabulous winner of this race 12 months ago, and will look to become the first horse since Ezzoud in 1994 to win back-to-back Juddmontes, and the five-year-old is a best-priced 4/1 shot to claim victory in York again. Last seen finishing third in the King George at Ascot, Mishriff has often failed to fire this season, but a return to Yorkshire in August could see him recapture his best form and he could be a notable thorn in the side of Baaeed.
Second in the 2000 Guineas at Newmarket earlier in the season, Native Trail recaptured the winning thread when bounding to victory in the Irish 2000 Guineas at the Curragh, but failed to follow up and was third in the Coral-Eclipse at Sandown Park. Unable to get the better of some older horses that day, the Charlie Appleby-trained 8/1 chance will need to improve on what he has shown to land a blow here.
The three-year-olds will receive weight from their older rivals and Nashwa will hope to book her place at York by claiming victory in the Nassau Stakes Glorious Goodwood today and she is available at 12/1, while at the same price State Of Rest will aim to build on a fine victory in the Prince Of Wales's Stakes at Royal Ascot, and that Joseph O'Brien-trained raider adds more depth to next week's race.
