This Saturday we have before us another Cross Country bet. If you are not familiar, this combines 2-3 racetracks (and their key races) in one Pick 5 wager. This Saturday we have ... Leg A: Tampa-Race 8 (3:49 pm EST), Leg B: Aqueduct-Race 8 (4:30 pm EST), Leg C: Oaklawn-Race 8 (4:47 pm EST), Leg D: Tampa-Race 10 (4:54 pm EST), Leg E: Oaklawn-Race 10 (5:56 pm EST). For a 50 cent minimum, that is quite a deal!

Most Likely Winner: (Race 3: Seahorse d’Oro #2, 7/2):

Trainer Ray Handal is having a strong Meet so far, and that should continue in this race … a Clm25kn2L. I like this filly by Bodemeister because this will be her 2nd time out. Handal does well in spots like these, even though it does not happen all that often. Young Jalon Samuel gets a shot at the winner’s circle, and he can up his game even more, by riding this one to victory. Last time, the response was not too impressive down the lane, but that is going to be a different story today.

Wagering Recommendation: $100 Win, #2

Off-the-Pace Play of the Day: (Race 7: Market Alert #3, 15/1):

Wellspring Stables has a gelding that is trying to make the switch from state bred to open company. A 4-yr-old by D’ Funnybone that is trained by Jim Ryerson, his last on the Aqueduct oval was back on 8 Jan. In that contest, he ended up having a pretty rough trip. Jorge Vargas comes back into the fold as his rider this time, and I think he will be a significant overlay … maybe 20/1 … Making this kind of class move is never easy, but Ryerson has the conditioning ability to surprise. I wouldn’t write this entry off, since he does have a win at “The Big A.”

Wagering Recommendation: $100 Bankroll, Graduated Wager WPS #3 ($10-W, $15-P, $75-S)

Spotlight Race of the Day: (Race 8: Dirt, 1 Mile, Gander S., $100k, 3 NY Breds):

The NY state breeding program is out in force this Saturday, and as part of the Cross Country Pick 5, it should be a good one. Out of these 7 runners that are drawn-in for this race, I am interested in Bill Mott’s Bold Journey #7. Is this one a pretender, or do you think he is the real deal? What we do know is that when you are 6/5 on the M/L … there are expectations. Last time this colt by Hard Spun hit the track, he won convincingly (all on the frontend), and it was by 6+ lengths. The posted figure was pretty sharp too. I am going to play against him, and try to take advantage of this one being over bet. Kendrick Carmouche is a solid rider, but that doesn’t mean he is assured victory. Since it is a short field, and not terribly expansive, I much prefer the price of Schosberg’s Bossmakinbossmoves #2, Atras’ Doin’ittherightway #3, and finally, Maker’s Barese #5. With a mix of different odds, they are sure to add value. I want to key all 3 of them, putting them on top of Mott’s young ace. The pressure might be too great for this colt from a class standpoint. It looks to be a great play from my perspective.
