Preakness 146 Horse Profile: Crowded Trade
With a field of ten announced for Preakness 146 at Pimlico this Saturday. Our in-house handicapper and turf-man both put together their thoughts on each of the runners set to complete in the second of the Triple Crown races.

Sean's Take...
Crowded Trade (#4): This guy got his career started a little late to be a factor in the Derby, but he finds himself in a good spot here for the same connections that won this race in 2017 with Cloud Computing. The trouble with him, however, is that after a sensational first two starts he took a big step back last out in the G2 Wood Memorial, which marked his first start around two turns. That ostensible lack of stamina is not going to play well at this 1 3/16-mile distance, and it’s especially worrisome given the dearth of quality in this year’s Wood. Crowded Trade may still have a bright future, but I doubt it manifests in this spot.
J.N.'s Take...
The Seth Klarman train comes to the Preakness railyard, and the red “KS”’s homecoming returns to the scene of their victory from a few years back with Cloud Computing. This will be one of a pair of runners who are entered, as is the customary fashion for the outfit.
The principal who likes to name his stock after “economic” actions, looks primed for another shot at Triple Crown Trail, as he rolls the dice. Never count these folks out because they regularly employ one trainer to represent them—Chad Brown. This particular entry was supposed to be all set for a score in the Wood Memorial (G2), but the colt out of More Than Ready couldn’t slam the door against the Pletcher boxcars. He comes into Pimlico with a shot at redemption, and he should be rested and relaxed.

Second favorite behind stablemate Medina Spirit. Won the San Vicente and Rebel in impressive fashion before a third place finish at the Arkansas Derby. Front-runner. If he gets out to the lead early then he'll be tough to beat. Big if though with Medina Spirit in the field.
