Most Likely Winner: (Race 11: Globes #2, 9/2):

Taking a trip around 2-turns is this group of Maidens that are a mix of Florida breds and those from KY/NY. Juan Alvarado has a runner entered in this spot that looks intriguing. Some do not care to back a 1st time gelding, but I do not see that as an impediment in here. This 3-yr-old by Brethren has already braved some “Non-G” action in South Florida, and even though it was not an impressive showing, he can use that to his advantage. Getting Paco Lopez is a plus, especially since his turf stats are quite good. Making the switch over from the Tapeta should not phase him one bit. This is a pretty inexperienced field he is facing too …

Wager: $100 Win, #2

Off-the-Pace Play of the Day: (Race 5: Shastree #7, 6/1):

I am not sure what price this colt will be once the betting begins, but I am sure that when most see that Irad Ortiz is aboard, he will not be 6/1. Sometimes horses get overlooked, and maybe that will be the case this time. In a pair of starts at Gulfstream Park, Teresa Pompay watched as her then-2-yr-old tried to graduate from MSW Co. into an OC75k contest. He just missed being in-the-money, and even though he went flat, I think that was a building block race. Pompay has had time to get in 4 works since then, and that tells me that the son of Street Sense has a shot to be more competitive this time around. Watch the tote … anything over 5/1 is an overlay.

Wager: Graduated Wager, WPS, $100 Bankroll, #7 ($10-W, $15-P, $75-S)

Spotlight Race of the Day: (Race 8: Turf, 1 Mile, Tropical Turf Stakes (G3), $100k, 4+):

We are taking to the Gulfstream turf for this “feature,” and going to the inside gate, you will find a star that is entered. The last time we saw Todd Pletcher’s Largent #1, he was up against his tough stablemate, Colonel Liam in the Pegasus WC Turf (G1) last year. He was just nipped at the line that day, and he could have won had it not been for the late heroics by Irad Ortiz. This time around, the Eclipse Thoroughbred Partners and HOF-er Pletcher have Luis Saez's services. The bettors will think, “That should do nicely” … Of course, is there a layoff question? Sure … But numbers do not lie, and if he is ready off-the-bench, then he could be very difficult to beat. Except for Chad Brown’s Value Proposition #4, I do not see too many in here that even remotely have the class or the grass experience to hang with Largent #1. Still this is horseplaying … you have to take on the impossible. Klaravich’s entry might indeed be the favorite come post time, and rightly so … getting the red-lettered “KS” with Brown-Ortiz in unison is a potent combination. I do not want to just bet one of these runners, and be done with it. There probably is little money in it when it comes to playing an Exacta Cold with this pair. Sounds like it is time to be aggressive, and look at the odds of the rest of the field. I am going to take all of the other runners in here, Clear Vision #2, Phat Man #3, Flying Scotsman #5, Call Curt #6, and Belgrano #7 … the plan is to roll them into an Exacta Box. When these favorites fail … we cash!

Wager: Exacta Box, $2, 2/3/5/6/7

Enjoy another fab Saturday trackside for the Championship Meet! Best of luck on another run at Gulfstream Park!
