NEWS... SHRP Increases Purses, Remainder of the Meet; Texas Champions Day Next Saturday

Houston, Texas - Although the current weather along Texas' Gulf Coast hovers in the mid to upper 70s, weeks ago readings reached single digits as thermometers plunged. As DRF reported last week, in response to a lost week of racing dates, Sam Houston Race Park (SHRP) received approval from the Texas Racing Commission to add the date of Wednesday, March 31, to its current Thoroughbred meet, according to a notice from the agency.
Horseracing.net has confirmed that SHRP will have a second purse increase for all overnight races effective on Wednesday, March 17, 2021. Speaking with Vice President and General Manager Dwight Berube, he said, “Due to the continued support of our product by horseplayers, and the loss of four racing dates due to the recent winter storm, we are pleased to announce another purse increase.” Dirt races will be infused with the amount of $6,000 for all conditions, and all turf races will be raised $1,000 through the remainder of the 2021 racing season.
The track is scheduled to race through April 3.. Next Saturday March 20, the track will host Texas Champions Day with a full-slate of races beginning at 5:45pm (CST). Seven stakes events are on tap at $100k each. A full menu of wagering opportunities, plus a low 12% takeout for horizontal wagers will once again be featured. The track is open to patrons, and does provide a designated area for mask-wearing.
