A quinella is a wager that requires the bettor to correctly predict the winner and the second-place finisher of a particular race — in any order.
Variations of this bet include a quinella key.
What is a quinella key?
A quinella key is a wager in which the bettor plays one horse to win or place, along with a variety of others to do the same. The cost of the ticket is determined by the base bet amount and the number of contenders paired with the key. For example, a $2 quinella key featuring four horses — including the key horse — would cost $6 ($2 x 1 key x 3 other contenders).
