Meeting: The racing season at Arapahoe usually takes place between mid-May and mid-August. The track is home to several big races, two of which are the Mile High Futurity and the Mile High Derby, both quarter horse stakes races with purses of over $100,000. For thoroughbreds, the meet's marque race is the $100,000 Gold Rush Futurity,which is a six-furlong race which is for two year-olds. Arapahoe Park also hosts four graded stakes races for Arabian horses. Arapahoe offers a mixed meet for thoroughbreds, quarter horses, and Arabians.
History: Arapahoe Park was re-opened in 1992 in Aurora, Colorado and is the only track that conducts a formal horse racing meet in the state. The track is owned by Mile High Racing and Entertainment, whose mission is to bring world-class horse racing to the state of Colorado.
Facilities: Arapahoe runs its races over a one-mile dirt oval. General admission to the track is $5, but it is free for kids 17 and under and for military personnel. There are also clubhouse tables available, free parking, concession stands and a bar.
