The filing deadline has passed and a surprise was thrown in at the last minute when Fore Left was announced as a runner for the 152nd running of the Belmont Stakes. Only two of the ten are currently ranked in the top ten of the NTRA Poll for three-year-olds.
There is little doubt that Tiz the Law will go off as favorite as indeed is 6/5 on the Morning Line. The three-time winner on the Kentucky Derby Prep trail so far this season has long been the horse to beat following the omission of rivals such as Charlatan, Maxfield and Nadal, all of whom will not be racing on Saturday. Charlatan has been ruled out until the Preakness, Nadal has been retired and Maxfield is out indefinitely.
The rearranged Kentucky Derby hasn’t helped the Belmont as many owners and trainers are still looking to Churchill Downs as the focus for 2020. With the aforementioned top horses all set to miss the race, the Derby has every shot to be won by a less than fancied horse as we sit here nearly three months out.
When it comes to the Post Position draw for the Belmont Stakes, well that has just taken place live on YouTube due to the Coronavirus situation limiting large crowds from gathering. The draw sees the horses line up like this along with their Morning Line odds:
1. Tap It to Win - 6/1
2. Sole Volante - 9/2
3. Max Player - 15/1
4. Modernist - 15/1
5. Farmington Road - 15/1
6. Fore Left - 30/1
7. Jungle Runner - 50/1
8. Tiz the Law - 6/5
9. Dr Post - 5/1
