Breeders' Cup Dirt Mile Odds
The Dirt Mile made its first appearance at the Breeders’ Cup in 2007, the year the event moved to a two-day format. The race earned a Grade 1 designation the first year it was eligible to be graded in 2009 and boasts a purse of $1 million. As its name implies, the Dirt Mile is contested at one mile on dirt, but it has in the past been run over a synthetic surface, depending on the composition of the host track’s main oval. There are currently two ‘Win and You’re In’ events for the Dirt Mile: the Grade 1 Metropolitan Handicap at Belmont and the Grade 2 Pat O’Brien at Del Mar. Goldencents is the only horse to have won two editions of the Dirt Mile, which he accomplished in back-to-back years in 2013 and 2014.
