The Filly & Mare Sprint was inaugurated in 2007 as part of the Breeders’ Cup expansion to a two-day event. The race was designated a Grade 1 in 2009 and currently carries a purse of $1 million; it is run at seven furlongs on the main track for fillies and mares. There are three races that serve as ‘Win and You’re In’ events for the Filly & Mare Sprint: the Grade 2 Princess Rooney at Gulfstream Park, the Grade 1 Ballerina at Saratoga, and the Grade 2 TCA at Keeneland. In 2013, Groupie Doll became the first filly to win multiple editions of the Filly & Mare Sprint having previously won in 2012.
