The Sprint was one of the original seven Breeders’ Cup races unveiled in 1984. The race is a Grade 1 event run at six furlongs on dirt with a purse of $2 million. There are currently five ‘Win and You’re In’ races for the Sprint: the Grade 2 John Nerud at Belmont, the Grade 1 Bing Crosby at Del Mar, the Grade 1 Vosburgh at Belmont, the Grade 2 Phoenix at Keeneland and the Grade 1 Santa Anita Sprint Championship at Santa Anita. Trainer Bob Baffert holds the record for Sprint victories with five, and two horses have won the race multiple times, Roy H and Midnight Lute.
