Charles Town Track Details
Address: 100 Hollywood Dr, Ranson, WV 25438

Meeting: Charles Town is one of the busiest tracks in North America, running nearly year-round save for a holiday break at the end of December and early January. It generally runs five days a week, though over the summer the race week gets cut down to four days. Charles Town has garnered much attention for its Grade 2, $1 million Charles Town Classic, which is the richest race run at the track by a considerable margin and often draws a Grade 1 caliber field despite not officially having that designation. Other stakes races with substantial purses are the Grade 3, $300,000 Charles Town Oaks run in the fall, and the $100,000 Dance to Bristol and $100,000 Robert Hilton Memorial, which are both run in late April on the same card as the Charles Town Classic. The track only offers dirt horse racing.
History: Charles Town Racetrack opened on December 2, 1933 just outside of Charles Town, West Virginia. The track is owned by Gaming and Leisure Properties and is operated by Penn National Gaming. Its most famous race, the $1 million Charles Town Classic, was inaugurated in 2009 and has quickly become one of the nation’s top races for older dirt horses.
Facilities: Charles Town holds its races over a six-furlong dirt main track. It has a casino on site with over 3,000 slot machines, table games, and now sports betting. Also on the property is a 153-room hotel, The Inn at Charles Town, and several dining facilities including a food court, sports bar, fine dining restaurant, and the Skyline Terrace, which overlooks the track.
