History: The Hyacinth Stakes has been going since 2003 and is one of two races to have been contested in every official Japanese Road to the Kentucky Derby (the other being the Cattleya Sho).
It is currently the penultimate race and winners get 30 points, which is more than the victors of the Cattleya Sho and Zen-Nippon Nisai Yushun but less than the first-place finisher at the Fukuryu Stakes.
Raced over a mile at Tokyo Racecourse, it is seen by many as the most important early season race for three-year-olds. .
