Meeting: Indiana Grand conducts both thoroughbred and quarter horse racing, sometimes on the same card. Racing is held from mid-April through early November, with the Grade 3, $500,000 Indiana Derby for 3-year-olds being the meet’s premier event. In 2019, Indiana Grand conducted 120 days of live racing and offered a total of 35 stakes races worth more than $4.3 million.
History: One of the newer tracks in the country, Indiana Grand Race Course opened in 2001 and was then known as Indiana Downs. A casino was opened on the property in 2009, and in 2013 the track took on its current name. Caesars Entertainment acquired the racino in 2018. It is located in Shelbyville, IN, a 40-minute drive outside of Indianapolis.
Facilities: Built at a cost of over $250 million, the massive facility has over 2,300 slot machines, electronic table games, and a poker room, in addition to quality horse racing. There are several dining options on site and a brewpub that in 2019 was approved to offer sports betting.
