Horse Racing Picks

Most Likely Winner: (Race 4: Dreams of Tomorrow #3, 2/1):

HOF trainer Shug McGaughey has a strong entry on Sunday that looks able to get a score in this OC100k race on the Outer Turf. Jockey Jose Lezcano knows this one through and through. The Phipps homebred did not flash a strong turn of foot last time in a similar race at Belmont in early October. It is mildly concerning to see that this one has had this trouble before, but I think the time is right to get the job done. In turf racing, one of the toughest moves to make is from off the pace. Lezcano is a master at taking care of business in this regard, and I still think he belongs in the upper echelons of elite riders. Today, he gets the job done, once again pairing with McGaughey.

Wagering Recommendation: $100 Win, #3

Off-the-Pace Play of the Day: (Race 10: Wild Banker #7, 8/1):

Here is a Chad Summers runner with much promise, and trust me, I have bet this one before at Monmouth and Aqueduct. I like the fact that the gelding by Central Banker already has $280+ to his name. In 23 starts, he has a record of 5/2/4 … Yet, his last race was a real coming out party in the Empire Classic at Belmont Park in late October. It was not that long ago that he was running in “Claiming Co.” Summers would have paired with Joel Rosario, but he was injured a couple of days back. Even with a different jock, I think this one can still do well. The price is going to be right at 8/1 or higher. Should be a nice wager …

Wagering Recommendation: $100 Bankroll, Graduated Wager WPS #7 ($10-W, $15-P, $75-S)

Spotlight Race of the Day: (Race 5: Dirt, 7F, New York Stallion Stakes, $150k, F&M 3+):

One half of the dual “feature” on this Sunday card is the NY Stallion Series. These are some tough “BT” races that always have a strong set of entries to their credit. My “key” horse in this spot comes from Jeff Bloom’s Stable of the same name. The Important One #6 already has 3 wins in-a-row to her credit. The most important came last time out in the Iroquois Stakes … That was an impressive victory for the Steve Asmussen trainee, and really proved that this daughter of Majestic City could make the class leap. With 13 starts already and 5 wins, it is looking like the sky is the limit when it comes to talent and realizing opportunity. Looking for some other runners to roll under this one, I want to nab Trinni Luck #3, Bank Sting #4, and Byhubbyhellomoney #7. Each of these has the ability to hit-the-board, and I am looking for them to make an impact. This ticket is coming together, and should yield a strong score … time to load up!

Wagering Recommendation: $2 Superfecta Wheel, 6 w 3/4/7 w 3/4/7 w 3/4/7

Enjoy another fab Sunday trackside! Best of luck on another run at the “Big A!”
