Aqueduct Picks: Perfect Munnings Could Be in Featured 8th

Aqueduct Racetrack closes out another solid week of racing on Sunday with a nine-race program. Our turfless-man has made picks for the entire card, along with select analysis of some of the races.
If you're looking for picks elsewhere around the country on Sunday, be sure to check out our Free Horse Racing Picks via the gold button below.
Most Likely Winner: (Race 4: Hometown #4, 9/5):
Michael Dubb is pretty adept when it comes to investing in the right horses. He employs Chad Brown, who is bringing his colt, Hometown #4, off the bench, after a 2-race campaign last summer. Those were not necessarily stellar outings, but Brown can get them ready. I don’t see too many in this field that can game with his thrusters, if he is ready to run. Should be…
Wager: $100 Win, #4
Favorite I Am Against: (Race 3: Wailing Josie #3, 7/5):
It looks like Wailing Josie #3 will be the presumptive favorite after garnering 7/5 support. In my opinion, this seasoned mare looks like she doesn’t like to win after a slew of 2nds. For that reason alone, I will back Saratoga Beauty #6 instead. She is heading into deeper company here, after a score at the claiming level. I like this move because it offers value if we choose to put her on top. Let’s do it!
Wager: $2 Exacta Cold, 6 w 3
Off-the-Pace Play of the Day: (Race 1: High Press #5, 10/1):
An MC40k has some options, as far as I am concerned, and I like the way Rob Atras’ long shot, High Press #5, is shaping up. These Hard Spun runners are pretty versatile, and dropping out MSW company into this spot could be a great move. Getting first-time Lasix gives me some hope. Also, seeing Kendrick Carmouche riding this one is awesome too. That word as a descriptor is trite, but I am using it to feel “hip.” Wait…
Wager: Bankroll: $100, Graduated Wager WPS, # ($10-W, $15-P, $75-S)
Spotlight Race of the Day: (Race 8: Dirt, 7F, Damon Runyon S., $100k, NY-breds, 3):
The “feature” on this Sunday card is a “Non-Graded” affair for $100k, and the folks at NYRA have put together a good field of 9 that are sprinting on the dirt. This time of year, that is the only surface available. Several are going to vie for favoritism, and I am sure Chad Brown’s Excellent Timing #5 is going to be near the top. That posted speed he tossed up in a MSW was stellar, and there is no reason to think that he will not try to duplicate that effort. My issue is that he is short on class, and I like others. Todd Pletcher’s Perfect Munnings #3 looks much “showier.” The colt has already done well in 2 BTs, and that last one, though he finished 3rd was against Jonathan Thomas’ ace, Nicky the Vest. That horse is most-assuredly headed to the Wood Memorial for all the NYRA 3-yr-old marbles. Let’s use both, and also Rudy Rodriguez’s Eagle Orb #2, who is getting Jorge Vargas. This colt’s speed can be a weapon in this spot, and dropping down after the Withers S. (G3) looks like the right move after a 5th place finish. Use ‘em and cash ticket…
Wager: $2 Exacta Wheel, 2/3/5
