Welcome to a Sunday Aqueduct card! It looks like it will be a blustery day @51 degrees for the high—20% precipitation might come about; no matter, we have some competitive racing ahead! Let’s have a look at the Late Pick 4 sequence (1 on dirt/3 on turf), and see if we can figure this out!

LEG 1: (Race 7: Turf 1 1/16th, ALLW 72k, 3+)

The Sunday Late Pick 4 starts on the Aqueduct inner turf course. A 12-horse field is not going to be easy to dissect, but it will be interesting. My top selection is from the Jerkens barn, Advanced Strategy #8. Getting Joel Rosario back aboard may do the trick, plus it looks like this colt wants to go a little bit further in distance. I am a sucker for Bernstein offspring by way of Karakonite (JPN) is my favorite turf sire. Plus, Gainesway provides great ownership. Sanctuary City #1 may have a flashier record, but I do not trust his ability to close. For me, this opening race is a single. We will live dangerously…

Selection: 8 (Single)

LEG 2: (Race 8: Turf 1 1/16th, ALLW 72k, F&M 3+)

This is the second half of the same type of race we just hit (wishful thinking…), except it is for fillies and mares. The field is not as large with 10 drawing in, which might be a blessing. I am going to continue to live on the edge, and wager that Joel Rosario is going to go back-to-back. If you look at his mount, Timeless Journey #4, the Verrazano filly has a nice graduated class record. Christophe Clement knows how to get them ready for the turf, and this one has experience if there is any give in the ground. I will take my chances against co-favorite and Mark Hennig runner, Kilkea #6. To me, Clement-Rosario is the better play. It is another single…

Selection: 4 (Single)

LEG 3: (Race 9: Dirt 7F, New York Stallion Series 100K, F&M 3+)

The New York Stallion Series presents some lovely chances for juicy scores. This 7F affair is going to be highly competitive. Luckily, we have squirreled away our nuts, so we can go deeper. Having a gander at the 4th Leg is also a good idea before making any final decisions here.

Linda Rice is probably ready to be at the track after spending the week in a courtroom defending her integrity. She brings Prairie Fire #5 in to this spot with Jose Lezcano riding. Talk about moving up the class ladder, this filly has expanded her resume rapidly. Last out, she made a powerful move in the Iroquois 125k that was absolutely impressive.

I like her, but instead I am going to nominate Michael Miceli’s Bankers Daughter #2 as my top selection. I know she has not run against these types, but if you look at her fitness level, she can measure up. This is a shorter field, and Dylan Davis is one of those unsung jocks who gets overshadowed by the Ortiz Bros, Franco, Johnny V, and Rosario. This would be a huge win for conditioner Miceli.

Since we have some spare change let’s also include: Espresso Shot #1, Officer Hutchy #3, and Sadie Lady #7.

Selections: 1/2/3/5/7 (5 Deep)

LEG 4: (Race 10: Turf 1 1/16th, MClm40k, F&M 3+)

In order to stay competitive and be alive at the end of this sequence, we will need to go deep here to survive the finale. This is a field of 12, and there is an AE that I am hoping will get in.

My top pick is Mike Maker’s Twice a Lady #2 with Irad Ortiz riding. She seems to be the best horse in the field based on that maiden run of hers, which saw her finish 4th. Maker is such an excellent conditioner that I think bettors do not take him seriously, especially at NYRA tracks. His numbers are strong when it comes to adding blinkers, and finding a spot for his second outs.

As far as the rest of the field, any one of these could jump up and run the race of their lives. For that reason, I am hitting the “All” button. Please note, that I am including AE Bonus Baby #13 as a possible selection. If she gets in, then add her to the mix.

Selections: All Button (12 Deep) (including Bonus Baby #13)
