Most Likely Winner: (Race 5: Miss Teheran #6, 9/5):
The female version of Race 8 takes place in No. 5, with older females going 1 1/16th on the grass. This one is a pretty straight forward decision for me when it comes to declaring a victor. Miss Teheran #6 is classy for Chad Brown, and though she missed in a similar contest back in May at Belmont, this mare can easily bounce back with a win today. Javier Castellano can make the difference on the grass. I am not sure, after his knee operation earlier this year, if he is quite up to scratch compared to the past. However, that doesn’t mean he cannot get the job done today. This is a straight “Win” wager for the Doubledown Stables.
Wagering Recommendation: $100 Win, #6
Off-the-Pace Play of the Day: (Race 2: Frosted Indian #3, 20/1):
In this Claiming35k event there are some low-priced options liked the coupled entry, 1/1A. These types always take money, but it is not a foregone conclusion that they will make it to the wire ahead of everyone else. For my money, in a spot like this one, I like a long shot that should be double-digit odds on the tote. Linda Rice, the trainer who has endured a difficult couple of years, is facing a 3-yr suspension of her license for improper practices. She is weathering it as best she can, and currently has the court giving her a “stay” for now. In the meantime, she sends a pair into this one. I like Frosted Indian #3 because Rice’s record “1st after” is strong. She has Manny Franco in the saddle, and that makes for this colt dangerous. The connection to Frosted is even more compelling. This is a sire on the make. Great price, and a true boxcar price.
Wagering Recommendation: $100 Bankroll, Graduated Wager WPS # ($10-W, $15-P, $75-S)
Spotlight Race of the Day: (Race 8: Turf, 1 1/8th, AOC100k, 3+):
A Sunday “Special” is up for grabs in this OC100k event @BEL. The Inner Turf is the site, and of course, Chad Brown’s runners will figure prominently in the picture. He has Madaket’s Olympico #1 and the new Three Chimneys import from Chile called Breakpoint #4, matching up against one another. That always presents a challenge when it comes to figuring out who gets the edge. The question is their level of fitness? The last time each of these were in competition was back in 2020, so if you are not willing to play “layoff” horses, then it is time to look elsewhere.
I agree, especially in this spot … time to look beyond Brown’s charges. For some value I would examine the merits of Mike Marker’s Cross Border #3. Though this aged son of English Channel has not actually won a race in some time, the Three Diamonds-owned turf router has competed against some of the best in the deeper route division. Names like Colonel Liam, Domestic Spending, Largent, Smooth Like Strait, and Somelikeitbrown, all come to mind. While his price around 5/2 is not inviting, he could go head-to-head with Luis Saez riding against the Browns … Time to watch some late-running firepower coming down the lane … Maker wins!
Wagering Recommendation: $2 Trifecta Box, 1/3/4
