Most Likely Winner: (Race 3: Single Soul #2, 1/1):

Since the Breeders’ Cup-winning Sharing was summarily retired last year, we have been waiting for Graham Motion’s next great filly. Maybe this one is it … This 3-yr-old at first was in the care of Chad Brown before coming to Herringswell last year. Since then, she has competed at all of the NYRA tracks. Always hitting the board, the daughter of the great Dubawi (IRE) has already extended herself in a number of distance contests. I would expect her to continue to do so, as Irad Ortiz once again takes up the riding duties. Motion is a master at spotting, and he has trained this one up properly. I would accept this short price, knowing that she has a great shot at a score. Easily a best bet … The sky is the limit for this fine filly, and there is much promise for the future.

Wagering Recommendation: $100, #2

Off-the-Pace Play of the Day: (Race 6: So Gracious #3, 15/1):

If you are rummaging through the clearance center down in the basement, then you might add this mare by Speightstown to your buggy. She might not look like much, but she is doing something that is important—getting back to what she knows. I like the angle of a runner who is making a surface switch from dirt-turf. Trainer Brittany Russell might be based in Maryland, but she has success no matter where she goes. Last year, she brought this one to Saratoga, winning at odds of 36/1 against a nice field of turf sprinters. Her charge is more talented than you might think. Right now, Dylan Davis is riding with a ton of confidence, and that only breeds more of it, in my estimation. I am pleased to see Russell attempt to get her 2nd win during the Meet … at this price, it could be an impressive payout!

Wagering Recommendation: $100 Bankroll, Graduated Wager WPS #3 ($10-W, $15-P, $75-S)

Spotlight Race of the Day: (Race 9: Turf, 7F, Carle Place S., $100k, 3):

The Friday “feature” @BEL is a “Non-G” affair on the Widener that is going to really provide a perplexing puzzle. All you have to do to tell that this is going to be a great betting race is thumb through the form’s M/L odds.

Out of this dozen, the lowest price is Mark Casse’s Easy Time #5 at 4/1. With no “prohibitive favorite” or even a “consensus pick,” it is going to be a good one. Speaking of the Casse entry, this colt by Not This Time has promise after a cycle that includes runs at Woodbine, Saratoga, and Kentucky Downs. Those were G2/G3 Co., and the results speak for themselves. As both a sprinter and a router, this one appears pretty versatile with Luis Saez taking the mount. HOF trainers like Casse didn’t get where they are without experience at their side, so backing this one sounds like a plan.

For a little more value though, we could say that Chad Brown’s Crowded Trade #1 looks intriguing based on his class and his connection to sire More Than Ready. We all remember the red “KS” and his attempt to navigate the Derby Trail, and though he never made it to Churchill Downs, he did make a valiant attempt in Baltimore at the Preakness. As he tries the turf for the 1st time, the colt does have Brown in his corner, plus Joel Rosario … you cannot get much better than this pairing. Including this one seems like a must to me.

A couple of other runners that warrant consideration include John Terranova’s Kawhi Me a River #11 at 8/1, and Brad Cox’s Snow House #12 at 6/1. The former ran very well at Belmont back on 19 September, taking over a MSW90k race when it counted. Jose Lezcano has directed this Kantharos colt in all 3 of his races, and there is a real chance in this spot, if he can rise to the challenge. As for Cox’s liege, the Juddmonte homebred is switching back to the grass, a surface he has not tried since his debut way back at the Fair Grounds in March. Johnny V has the assignment, and who doesn’t like the offspring of sire Twirling Candy? This one could be a square price in the end.

Let’s use them all in what could be a really nice paying Trifecta …

Wagering Recommendation: $2 Trifecta Box, 1/5/11/12

Enjoy the day at beautiful Belmont! Best of luck on another run at their Fall Meet!
