Most Likely Winner: (Race 1: Extra Effort #6, 8/5):

Here is a little claimer that is sure to bring a winner. The Rodriguez Barn has this older filly by Flashback poised for a win. She has $122k+ to her name when it comes to earnings, and 2021 is a mark of consistency. Perusing her speed figs, I think she has what it takes to battle this bunch. Jockey Manny Franco climbs aboard this Novak Stable-owned runner, and he should be able to guide her to victory. Nothing like notching a win right out of the gate in Race 1 …

Wagering Recommendation: $100, #6

Off-the-Pace Play of the Day: (Race 8: Never Explain #4, 8/1):

Shug McGaughey? Joel Rosario? Teaming on a runner that is 8/1 on the M/L … what? That sounds like music to my ears. Here is a Courtlandt Farms-owned colt by Street Sense who appears to be a solid price. He has not had his best race … he might be sitting on one. Last out at Belmont, he finished 5th, but it was not a terrible effort that day. His progress looks more than just a little bit promising. McGaughey is a pro, through and through, when it comes to getting his charges ready to … well … charge. This one might be my best pick of the day, and I am hoping that no one else notices this runner. That will not happen … dare to dream.

Wagering Recommendation: $100 Bankroll, Graduated Wager WPS #4 ($10-W, $15-P, $75-S)

Spotlight Race of the Day: (Race 7: Dirt, 6½F, ALLW80k, 3+ NY Breds):

The highlight on this Thursday card is this blast that begins down the backside of Big Sandy. It will not be easy to nab a winner in this spot because we have a number of superb options. Of course, many will think that Bill Mott’s Big Bobby #1 is what we call in the business, a “deserving favorite.” That might not be an overstatement since the gelding by Shanghai Bobby narrowly missed in a pair of ALLW Co. races back at Saratoga. Maybe he did not care for the MT upstate, but whatever the case, coming back to Belmont appears to be a positive. Junior Alvarado is the only jockey to ever ride this one, so he is looking to get another win.

I am going to spurn what is sure to be a short-priced favorite, and instead, I want to look to Rob Atras’ Seven Lilies #2 with Dylan Davis aboard. First off-the-claim last time at Belmont, the sprinter was “good” in an ALLW80k at Belmont. I think he can do even better than just hitting the board, and at 6/1, I think this could qualify as a bit of an overlay. The speed fig the 6-yr-old gelding put up was not “bad” for a 6-yr-old gelding who has 43 races under his saddle. His conditioner has solid numbers over the course of the year, and his charge is peaking at the right time. In other words, he comes back to Elmont with a fresh set of legs. The former Klesaris runner got a nice prep last time.

One other that deserves a mention is Bob Baffert … yes, I said Bob Baffert … and his colt by Into Mischief. Fenway #6 was a monster last time, all up front, in a MSW75k at Belmont. Luis Saez rode him to perfection then, and he is hoping to do the same once again. Baffert’s name “aint the best in” horse racing right now, so it will be interesting to see if bettors thumb their nose at him, or bow in respect. We shall see … personally, I do not think that this one is ready for the class hike. I will use him, but not on top. That is the scoop …

Wagering Recommendation: $2 Trifecta Wheel, 2 w 1/6 w 1/6

Enjoy the day at beautiful Belmont! Best of luck on another run at their Fall Meet!
