Horse Racing Picks

Most Likely Winner:  T Loves a Fight (Race 6) - When the Orlando Noda barn gets rolling, sometimes you just have to get out of the way. In the case of T Loves a Fight, it looked for a while as though his career might be done, but suddenly he’s back in sharp form for Noda, who has had this horse humming at various points in his career. I’m fully anticipating him keeping the momentum going following a solid try at the 50k level, and as such he’s a very likely winner of this race.

Best Value:  Sainthood (Race 9) - The Pennine Ridge strikes me as the perfect spot for Sainthood to try the turf. This horse really popped up on my radar two back in the G3 Jeff Ruby Steaks at Turfway Park, in which he had a horrible trip and probably should have won. Since it was conducted on a synthetic surface at Turfway, that race gives you a bit of a glimpse into how this horse will handle the lawn, and the early results are certainly promising. I think this horse could really have a future on turf and I’m expecting him to show it on Saturday.

Other Races of Interest:  Race 5 - I’m not interested in any of the likely favorites in this race, which is why I’m willing to give my old friend Fetching (#1) a try as she cuts back in distance on short rest. This filly’s 2021 sprints don’t make her standout, however it feels like she took a step forward in her last race and her 2020 form would make her a major player in this spot. With a couple others set to underperform, I believe she’s a prime candidate to outrun her odds.

Race 8 - This is a pretty evenly-matched field with a few logical places to go, but I’m giving the slight nod to Girolamo’s Attack (#2) as he ships to New York. This guy has been prone to trouble in his sprint races because of his lack of early speed, however his connections may have just found a workaround in his last start, when he was stretched out to a mile for the first time. That decision resulted in a career-best performance out of this 4-year-old, and given the run his trainer Saffie Joseph, Jr. is on right now on this circuit, I think that form is going to translate well here.
