Most Likely Winner: (Race 7: Flighty Lady #9, 7/2):
Mr. Peter Brant owns some good ones, and this mare by Sir Percy (GB) is no exception. You might remember her from last year when she came to the U.S. for her debut, after running in France. Irad Ortiz was aboard then, and will be as she starts her ’22 campaign. The distance and class test off the bench should not be an issue because Chad Brown is such a powerful planner when it comes to conditioning. With a strong kick, she should be ready to fire … Maybe we will catch a break? When it comes to the odds, most bettors will be concerned that she “needs one.”
Wagering Recommendation: $100 Win, #9
Off-the-Pace Play of the Day: (Race 6: Three Jokers #2, 6/1):
Ever since this John Terranova son of Twirling Candy switched back in December from running against state breds to open company, he has steadily improved. Certainly, his last effort at Aqueduct which ended up off-the-board (12-lengths back), was not the best of trips … Yes, he was tired, and failed as the favorite. Now, is the time for redemption, and with Luis Saez replacing Dylan Davis, I do not think that is a downgrade whatsoever. If the price on Terranova’s entry is 6/1, then that would qualify as an overlay.
Wagering Recommendation: $100 Bankroll, Graduated Wager WPS #2 ($10-W, $15-P, $75-S)
Spotlight Race of the Day: (Race 8: Dirt, 6F, Gold Fever S., $100k, 3):
I am pretty fond of races like this one at Belmont on Sunday. This six-pack is going to be tough to ‘cap, and I am sure that Todd Pletcher’s Provocateur #3 will take significant money. It is only because of the HOF conditioner, but also because this is a MyRacehorse-part-owned runner. These runners get backed at the windows to the hilt, and it brings the price on them way down. The colt by Into Mischief is 5/2 on the M/L, but I doubt that will be the case when post time rolls around. I know Irad Ortiz rode him impressively at Gulfstream Park in the Hutcheson S. $100k. There is no question about his level of talent, but I like another one in this race. John Toscano has a small, but effective stable … Runninsonofagun #2 might not look like much, but he’s got it where it counts. An alum of the Grade 3 Gotham S., after that contest, his conditioner brought him down to Parx for a tune-up race. Winning easily, it was a solid confidence booster. Moving up in class, he is going to be a superb price, and there is no better stretch-running jockey that is as aggressive as Luis Saez. If he can keep his mount close to the lead, then it could be a strong play. His latest bullet work is icing on the cake, and it would be excellent to see a smaller barn make a big splash against the titans. Here we go folks!
Wagering Recommendation: $2 Exacta Cold, 2 w 3
