Breeders' Cup Dirt Mile 2021 Entries: Life is Good for odds-on favorite
Life is Good opens as a 4-5 shot in the Breeders' Cup Dirt Mile. That price seems a touch short to me but I am a huge fan of the horse. Eight have been entered following the Post Position draw but can anyone stop LIG?

Earlier today whilst sitting here putting together some of our Breeders’ Cup content, I heard from our former colleague Sean Morris. We were talking about the Jets rather than Horse Racing but I bring this up now because the Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile has the horse we both had as top of our Kentucky Derby rankings until he was pulled off the Road due to injury. That horse is of course the now Todd Pletcher trained Life is Good.
LIG was moved from Bob Baffert’s stable and after returning from his long layoff, this Into Mischief colt went stride for stride with Jackie’s Warrior around one turn in the H. Allen Jerkens Memorial at Saratoga.
Next time out he moved back to a mile where he beat a weak field in the Grade II Kelso Handicap. If he’s even close to where we saw him at the start of the year then he’s the best horse by far in this field. The problem is that little word - if - and that is an unknown at this point. His works have looked phenomenal but if he’s close to Even money, he’s a tough bet despite potentially being the class of the field. The Morning Line however has opened with him as a â odds-on choice.
The likely second choice for many will be Met Mile winner Silver State. Steve Asmussen’s four-year-old had a five-race winning streak snapped at Saratoga in the loaded Grade I Whitney. Short on runners but high on quality was the motto for that race. Classic contender Knicks Go beat out Maxfield with Silver State third. That was a premier race so finishing third behind two horses who had (or have in the eyes of Knicks Go) eyes on the BC Classic prize is nothing to be ashamed of. At 7-2 he’s going to interest many.
The likes of Eight Rings, Ginobili and Mind Control are going to be interesting choices for those looking to oppose Life is Good. Ginobili in particular had some buzz but 4-1 is just too short. If he doesn’t drift then I’d struggle to back him.
Our racecard is with all the M/L odds is at the top of the page and check back later in the week for J.N. Campbell’s preview along with my thoughts for the race.
