Whenever you have a two-year-old who has already won four straight then you get the sense that they might be a little bit special. That is where Wesley Ward is with his filly Averly Jane.
This daughter of two-time Grade I winner Midshipman has bounced around the US making successful stops at Keeneland, Churchill Downs and Saratoga. She’s won three times on dirt along with a very fast run on turf last time out in the Indian Summer Stakes where she beat the boys. It should come as no surprise that she will open as the 5-2 betting choice on the Morning Line.
Wesley Ward has two other chances in this race and at 12-1 - Kaufymaker looks a big price considering she finished second to her stablemate Averly Jane in the aforementioned Indian Summer Stakes. Twilight Gleaming went over to the UK and finished second in her race at Royal Ascot but she followed that up with victory in France in the Prix de la Vallee d'Auge. Frankie Dettori rode her that day but Irad Ortiz Jr. returns to the saddle on Friday having ridden her in both her previous US based races.
Ryan Moore gets the ride on Armor who has already gone up against stiff competition over in the UK. In four Group level races since July, this son of No Nay Never has one win, a second, a third and a fourth. You can’t say that her trainer and connections aren’t giving her plenty of work.
Another two-year-old colt to keep your eye on is the undefeated One Timer who has three wins on his resume from three.
Our racecard is at the top of the page with all the M/L odds is at the top of the page and check back later in the week for J.N. Campbell’s preview along with my thoughts for the race.
