Days at the SPA ... A Preview of Saratoga 2021

This Thursday, July 15th, the New York Racing Association opens what many consider the very best meet in all of Thoroughbred racing. It's Saratoga, aka the SPA!
Tucked away upstate, north of Albany, the town of Saratoga Springs invites the world to enjoy dirt and turf contests at their finest. Since the late nineteenth century, the titans of the sport have competed to not only secure victories, but to also etch their names into a ledger that will continue to stand the test of time. When it comes to claiming races ... all the way to the running of the signature event, the Grade 1 Travers, barns have late July and August circled on their calendars.
After a 2020, which brutally struck the state of New York, and kept fans away from a retreat upstate, this year will see the return of spectators to full capacity. That means crowds will swell like the old days, and though the vaccinated will be divided from those that are not, the spirit will be on full display.
The schedule at the SPA will include a Thursday through Sunday approach (Monday racing is no longer part of the Meet), which runs for 8-weeks and concludes on 6 Sept., Labor Day. We will witness an impressive array of stakes competition throughout, including ... Whitney Day (7 Aug.), Alabama Day (21 Aug.), and of course, Travers Day (28 Aug.). The next month and half also features daily Graded and Non-Graded races too. Check the NYRA website for all the action!
