The Del Mar Thoroughbred Club is hosting another day of superb racing! Near the surf, the turf is where the day's action will reside! Situated right next to Solana Beach in SoCal, the Del Mar Meet brings together the very best in the region.
With picks and analysis through Labor Day, it should be a rousing series of great races ... Some of the highlights include the forthcoming Del Mar Handicap, and eventually, the TVG Pacific Classic. Stay tuned … it is going to be another fabulous time at Del Mar!
At Horseracing.net/us we have you covered, including all of the action! It is a good time for some of the best that North American racing has to offer. Stay tuned! Most Likely Winner: (Race 8: Dandy Warhol #8, 7/2):
There is much to like about this gelding by Dandy Man (IRE). Trainer Mark Glatt could use a few more wins at the Del Mar Meet, and that might launch him into the stratosphere. This 3-yr-old ran in the Oceanside $100k, but he did not finish particularly well. Ending up 6th was not a great showing, but he has the potential to make amends here. Umberto Rispoli is riding strong right now, and when he is able to get out in the open, he can match wits with anyone in this colony. If you get 7/2 on this one, then that constitutes a significant overlay. What a bet …
Wagering Recommendation: $100 Win, #8
Off-the-Pace Play of the Day: (Race 6: Park Avenue #5, 4/1):
The Avengers-esque team-up of Hronis Racing and John Sadler goes way back, and they are up against a tough opponent in Phil D’Amato’s Going Global #2. They have a shot with a runner that likes to go to the lead and hold it. I like the choice to stick with Victor Espinoza because he has strong ability when it comes to the turf. His numbers might not quite support that assertion, but when it comes to the “big days,” he has the luck. If the odds can float above 4/1, then we are in good stead.
Wagering Recommendation: $100 Bankroll, Graduated Wager WPS #5 ($10-W, $15-P, $75-S)
Spotlight Race of the Day: (Race 9: Dirt, 6F, Sorrento S. (G2), $200k, 2F):
The Grade 2 Sorrento Stakes is always one of those signposts for the 2-yr-old SoCal fillies. If you can brave this one, it could be a sign of good things to come. It appears that Doug O’Neill has a trio of runners that are looking to grab their 1st piece of G2 glory. Of these, clearly Absolutely Zero #6 is the best of the best … Reddam Racing … sire Nyquist … Mario G. … O’Neill … we have heard this one before, haven’t we? Despite shades of 2016, I am much more impressed by Eclipse Thoroughbred Partners, and their filly by Not This Time. A popular sire, trainer Mike McCarthy has a smart one in his keep, and Procrastination #1 did nothing of the sort breaking his maiden 1st time out at Los Alamitos. Ricardo Gonzalez will sport the light blue, black, and white on Saturday, and expect to see these colors in the winner’s circle after this G2 is done. With breakaway speed, we could be looking at one of the best of her kind in SoCal. Cool race …
Wagering Recommendation: $2 Exacta Cold, 1 w 6
