The Del Mar Thoroughbred Club is ready for another week close to the surf … and we know what is to come on the grass, aka the turf! Situated right next to Solana Beach in SoCal, the Del Mar Meet brings together the very best racing.
With picks and analysis through Labor Day, it should be a rousing series of great races ... Some of the highlights include the Del Mar Handicap, and eventually, the TVG Pacific Classic. Stay tuned … it is going to be another fabulous time at Del Mar!
At Horseracing.net/us we have you covered, including all of the action! It is a good time for some of the best that North American racing has to offer. Stay tuned! Most Likely Winner: (Race 6: Loma Vista #1, 5/1):
I am not sure that Phil D’Amato’s filly by Midnight Storm deserves to be 5/1 on the M/L. She seems classier than that initial price, especially when you consider the OC50k Co. she has kept this past spring at Santa Anita. Little Red Feather Racing has invested their $90k in a good one, and I expect her to use her tactical abilities from that inside post position. Ramon Vazquez is a jockey who really came out of his shell at the Oaklawn Meet, and if he catches fire, this colony better watch out!
Wagering Recommendation: $100 Win, #1
Off-the-Pace Play of the Day: (Race 4: Surrogate #4, 6/1):
Trainer Pat Biancone is taking advantage of the “Ship and Win” Program that Del Mar offers. His barn has a pair of starts, but has yet to notch a victory. This could be the one … A homebred by the now-deceased Arrogate, this gelding should enjoy the trip out to SoCal. This will be his 2nd lifetime start, and the debut at Churchill was nothing short of a tough “ask.” Going a 1 3/8ths over that new Matt Winn Course at Churchill had to be difficult. Now, he gets Ryan Curatolo aboard, and the cutback on the dirt should suit him well. Watch this one fire at a favorable price …
Wagering Recommendation: $100 Bankroll, Graduated Wager WPS #4 ($10-W, $15-P, $75-S)
Spotlight Race of the Day: (Race 7: Turf, 5F, OC40n1x, F&M 3+):
There is nothing faster than a 5-furlong turf race on the Jimmy Durante at Del Mar. The “feature” this Thursday afternoon is a value-laden race that is sure to be a pulse-pounding affair. I am quite partial to Vlad Cerin’s filly by Speightster. Champagne Camie #8 comes back to a place where she won a MSW70k last November. She was ridden by JJ Hernandez that afternoon, and will get his services once again. Some runners really gravitate to certain tracks, and I think this is one of those instances where she should enjoy a familiar setting. A pair that could be useful when it comes to filling out your tickets are Peter Miller’s Pammy’s Ready #3 and Peter Eurton’s Stressed #5. Both of these runners have turf skills, and appear to be the types that can rate early in a race. They both should be quality prices, and their barns are looking to improve their spot in the trainer standings. Uncovering some battle-tested sprinters is always the name of the game, and anything can happen in a race like this one. Here is the wager that should give us a shot at a nice Trifecta score …
Wagering Recommendation: $2 Trifecta Wheel, 8 w 3/5 w 3/5
