Another weekend of beautiful weather from Southern California is on the way ... where the surf and the turf merge!

Most Likely Winner: (Race 7: Leggs Galore #2, 5/2):
The quote on quote, “Feature” on the Sunday card brings together a nice group of Cal breds who will be going around 2-turns on the grass at Del Mar. When it comes to classy behavior, I want this one in my corner because the Phil D’Amato-trainee was 2nd last out in the Wilshire Stakes (G3) at Santa Anita. The older filly has even more experience beyond that attempt. With career earnings in excess of 342k, and with Ricardo Gonzalez in the saddle, she should be well fixed for the win. At 5/2, that is not much of an overlay, if at all, but she is deserving considering all the of circumstances involved.
Wagering Recommendation: $100 Win, #2
Off-the-Pace Play of the Day: (Race 4: Prince Ziggy #6, 20/1):
If you are out looking for a true price play, then take a look at this one from the barn of Eric Kruljac. He may not look like much, but he has it where it counts … With Geo Franco up, this gelding out of Cairo Prince is going to try and rectify what was a poor showing in his debut race at Del Mar back on 25 July. At this price … 20/1 … he could be an interesting pick from a barn that can always surprise. Kruljac is a pro on the SoCal circuit.
Wagering Recommendation: $100 Bankroll, Graduated Wager WPS #6 ($10-W, $15-P, $75-S)
Spotlight Race of the Day: (Race 3: Turf, 5F, AOC62.5, F&M 3+):
Even though R3 is early on the Sunday card, it has the feel of a tough grass that is sure to be a magnificent betting opportunity. Some cash will flow into the coffer of Richard Baltas’ Gidgetta #2. She is cutting back in distance after running in the Wilshire (G3) last out. She was well off the pace, and finished a disappointing 6th. Then again, she was 12/1, so those odds were warranted. Even though this Jungle Racing homebred has a bit of a class edge, this will not be a lock with Flavien Prat at the controls. At 5/2, that is not much value when it comes down to it.
Looking elsewhere, I know John Sadler’s Five Pics Please #7 did not turn out well last time in the Daisycutter 80k in late July at Del Mar. She was shuffled back in the stretch, and ended up 8th. Of course, it was a blanket finish for the rest, and I am hoping that she was just out of sorts. The filly out of Cinco Charlie can run, and with Umberto Rispoli aboard, he has the ability to make a difference. Sadler took her back to the morning works, and she clearly is fit as can be. This dropdown might be just the ticket, and her price … well, it is sure to be 8/1 or higher come post time.
Let’s also back Mark Glatt’s Fantasy Heat #5, who is a master at this level … just missing in events like these last year. She is a mare out of Unusual Heat, and she should be rested coming off the bench.
Wagering Recommendation: $2 Trifecta Box, 2/5/7
