The Del Mar Thoroughbred Club is ready for another summer by the surf … and we know precisely what to expect on the nearby turf. Based just north of San Diego, California, the Del Mar Meet brings together the very best of SoCal racing, as they prepare to host the November Breeders’ Cup.

At HorseRacing.net/us, we have you covered for all of it, as we bring you both Paul and J.N.'s picks on this Friday, along with the latter's select analysis. It should be a rousing good time ... As for the rest of the Meet, one of the highlights includes the forthcoming Grade I TVG Pacific Classic. Stay tuned … it is going to be another fabulous time at Del Mar!

Horse Racing Picks

Most Likely Winner: (Race 4: Bold Endeavour #2, 8/5):

This OC62.5k race has numerous angles, but when it comes to notching a “most likely,” this one is the odds-on choice. Trainer Mark Glatt has quite a stable. Though his gelding out of Bernardini lost the lead at the top of the stretch, he can come back and win easily in here. Juan Hernandez learned some lessons, and maybe he can slow things down this time around, if he can make the lead. His latest works are perfectly adequate, and though he has a number of races under him since January, that means he is fit. By the way, look at his Del Mar record … 4/2-1-0 … that bodes well.

Wagering Recommendation: $100 Win, #2

Off-the-Pace Play of the Day: (Race 6: Citrus Burst #7, 10/1):

The Jeff Engler gelding is going to be the “value play” on this Friday … Much to like as this 4-yr-old comes West from Gulfstream Park. The Into Mischief offspring competed in some nice races for Lea Farms, and a 2nd in the Silks Run75k was a highlight. He doesn’t need the lead, and that may take some pressure off jockey Mario Gutierrez. With a fitness level that looks promising since he ran as recently on 4th July … coming to Del Mar could be very liberating. The best news is that his price of 10/1, or even higher if bettors choose to look elsewhere, makes him extremely inviting. Into Mischiefs … yes indeed!

Wagering Recommendation: $100 Bankroll, Graduated Wager WPS #7 ($10-W, $15-P, $75-S)

Spotlight Race of the Day: (Race 7: Dirt, 7F, Fleet Treat S., $175k, 3F):

The “Non-G Feature” is this one … the Fleet Treat S. It should make for a heck of a race going 7F on the MT at Del Mar. Tops on the tote come race time will most assuredly be the Solis Barn’s Fi Fi Pharoah #1. Well-bred out of American Pharoah (yep, the Triple Crown one), this filly has some tools that are pretty inviting. She has already won over $175k, and is looking for more. Umberto Rispoli gets the mount, and he can make it 3 in-a-row.

If you do not want to take what promises to be the prohibitive favorite, then you could go with the presumed 2nd choice out of Carla Gaines outfit. Closing Remarks #2 is out of Vronsky, and she is looking to add to her pile of $209+. Last time out, she was awfully good enroute to a 2nd place in the Senorita Stakes (G3). That puts her in good company, and though her speed figs digressed a bit, she has the game to take this one to the house with JJ Hernandez in the irons. Gaines has her double-entered in Saturday's San Clemente S. (G2), so we shall see where she lands.

As for a little longer priced runner, I truly like Ryan Hanson’s Respectfully #3, and she gets HOF jockey Mike Smith. She took a decided step back at Santa Anita in an AOC contest, but I am willing to draw the proverbial line through that one. Her prior races were stellar, and if she can get back to that kind of running, then she could be a legit threat. Lately, her work tab looks mighty fine, and that could mean she is ready to fire.

Wagering Recommendation: $2 Trifecta Box, 1/2/3
