Most Likely Winner: (Race 4: Bad to the Bones #8, 3/1):
Trainer Graham Motion has a long history of coming to Delaware and competing in the toughest races. It is just a hop, skip, and a jump from his base just over the Pennsylvania border. This colt by Arrogate (a sire who we lost way too early) has the ability to win a race like this one. Feargal Lynch has strong turf experience, and I like the fact that this runner does have an attempt over the lawn at Pimlico in May. The old “third off-the-bench” angle is in-play here, as well.
Wagering Recommendation: $100 Win, #8
Off-the-Pace Play of the Day: (Race 6: Gladys #8, 10/1):
In the annual renewal of the Dick Memorial going 1 3/8ths on the grass, we have a strong field of routers. I particularly like the form and chances of Kelsey Danner’s filly by Medaglia d’Oro. I think it is safe to say that she did not care for the Parx turf last time out. A heavy favorite, she just did not do any running after experiencing some major traffic troubles in that $100k “Non-G.” Switching to local man Jaime Rodriguez could be a great move for Danner. Her conditioning abilities are a best kept secret, and I think this one’s grass bloodlines speak to being able to handle a stretch out like this one. The price on the tote will be excellent, and I am certainly hoping for double-digits.
Wagering Recommendation: $100 Bankroll, Graduated Wager WPS #8 ($10-W, $15-P, $75-S)
Spotlight Race of the Day: (Race 7: Dirt, 1¼, Delaware H. (G2), $500k, F&M 3+):
Going the Derby distance of a 1¼, we have a rematch in this race between Claudio Gonzalez’s Miss Leslie #7 and Rob Atras’ Battle Bling #4. Last month they went at it in a “Non-G,” and it was the former who got the job done, winning by half-a-length. Kendrick Carmouche was in-town then, and will try to replicate that performance. I don’t particularly care for either of these runners, and while I will be using them in some of my exotics, they will not be my top choice. Instead, I am much more intrigued by HOF trainer Shug McGaughey’s Bees and Honey #6. The filly by Union Rags really missed against rival Microcap #5, who is also entered here. Even though her 2 starts this year did not yield an intended result, that doesn’t mean she cannot rebound @DP. I think she is much more talented than her current record reflects. Gainesway doesn’t invest in poor ventures, and I like the choice of Umberto Rispoli. He is a sharp rider with a strong record in SoCal over this past year. His mount had a strong record last year, and she is very capable. What a price she should be, which will benefit bettors that are willing to give her a try. Here is the wager …
Wagering Recommendation: $2 Trifecta Cold, 6/4/7
