Most Likely Winner: (Race 2: Lovethatcause #7, 8/5):
Karl Broberg and Tim Thornton team-up together in hopes of another victory. Broberg has had a heck of week fending off what was a serious allegation against his barn for the use of illegal substances. The conditioner cleared his name with a series of counter tests conducted at the Maddy Center in SoCal. It is good to see this leading trainer being Lovethatcause #7 back into this class of a race. This gelding should be primed for a win, and I do not see why she couldn’t get it.
Wager: $100 Win, #7
Favorite I Am Against: (Race 6: Shi O’Shi #1, 6/5):
The 4-yr-old filly Shi O’Shi #1 was awfully good last time at Delta in a lower-level ALLW contest. Now, she is moving up the ladder into a NW of 3-lifetime. Much deeper waters await, and that makes me think that if she is around 6/5… not a very inviting play. Sure, you get a runner from the barn of Bret Calhoun, but why not at least get a little more value. She is a Daredevil daughter, but what about a half brother from the barn of Juan Larrosa instead who will be a much better shot at 3/1? 1st off-the-claim this time around, Champagne Affair #3 spent most of the fall running in OC events at Canterbury and Hawthorne. That experience was essential, and I expect that this filly, who was bred by WInStar, will have Tim Thornton aboard. Should be fun!
Wager: $2 Exacta Cold, 3 w 1
Off-the-Pace Play of the Day: (Race 7: Flashing Angelbaby #5, 10/1):
Brett Brinkman is one of my favorite DD conditioners because he has some sneaky good barn members that sometimes get overlooked. Flashing Angelbaby #5 knows the MT, and can game with the rest of this crowd. It was just last year that the gelding was running in ALLW Co. after all. Why he cannot get back to doing what he was doing last year, is not far off. He will be a great price, and the best part is Brinkman gets Jose Guerrero to ride.
Wager: Bankroll: $100, Graduated Wager WPS, #5 ($10-W, $15-P, $75-S)
Spotlight Race of the Day: (Race 5: Dirt, 6½F, MSW37k, F&M3+):
This is one of those races where 3-yr-old fillies are mixing for the first time with older, more experienced 4-yr-olds. That is a bit of a disadvantage for the former, since the latter should have more maturity and races under their belts. Based on some of this knowledge, Hallajoori #5 has some near misses, but on the whole, is incredibly consistent. Sure, she has not broken her maiden, but stay tuned because she has an excellent shot in here. I want to use her, and several others slated in a Trifecta ticket. Let’s take all the other 4-yr-olds (#4, #7) and put them under the #5 (and switch ’em too). That should cover us. I have a feeling that a couple of the sophs might be good to have, so Greatest Love #1 and World Party #8 are getting stubs too.
Wager: 5 w 1/4/7/8 w 1/4/7/8, and/or 1/4/7/8 w 5 w 1/4/7/8
