Most Likely Winner: (Race 4: Big Money Machine #4, 5/2):
The pairing of trainer Karl Broberg and jockey Tim Thornton continues to light up the Vinton, Louisiana sky. They get together once again in this cheap little claimer. I like this runner because it just goes to prove that Thoroughbreds can have productive careers even at age 8. With 10 wins in 69 career starts, this gelding just continues to compete. The son of Pure Prize was smart at Evangeline, and before that at Louisiana Downs. A former regular at Arlington and Hawthorne, coming down to the Pelican State was a move that might prolong his career. Betting on the Texas-Louisiana based Broberg and End Zone Athletics is an easy decision.
Wager: $100 Win, #4
Off-the-Pace Play of the Day: (Race 7: Lover Boy #9, 6/1):
If you are not a fan of Florida bred runners, then it is time to change your tune. Chris Richard conditions this son of Fury Kapcori, and this 4-yr-old gelding has much to like coming off a couple of scores at Belterra Park, and then the celebrated Keeneland. If he can take a step forward in this spot for Richard, then he could expand on what has already been a smart-looking 2021. What a sparkling record … 9/4-2-1, with earnings over 41k. That might not seem like a big number, but it is a foundation to build on. The well-known jockey, affectionately known as “G-money,” gets the call. If this one even flips above 6/1 when they are loading up, then it is time to load up.
Wager: Graduated Wager, WPS, $100 Bankroll, #9 ($10-W, $15-P, $75-S)
Spotlight Race of the Day: (Race 8: Dirt, AOC15k, 3+):
A tough AOC is where we find ourselves in Race 8, but I have a strong opinion about Keith Bourgeois’ Jimmy Two Times #6. A Louisiana bred, the gelding was excellent beginning late last year at the Fair Grounds and then at Delta. Now, he is even more mature, and should be able to take on a group like this one, even if it is off-the-bench. Jockey Joel Dominguez has his finger on this one’s pulse, and I bet he can ride him to a nice score.
Let’s key this son of Half Ours, but also roll in some of the others that could earn us a pretty penny when it comes to a Trifecta. Karl Broberg’s Lookin for Eight #8 is coming from a hot barn, and should improve after a lackluster performance at the track last month. I am not sure if the 7-yr-old can win, but he should be in-the-money. Adding in ... coupled entry Destiny Way #1 and Tempt Fate #1A, Greg Tracy’s Impact Player #7, Eric Henry’s December Seven #3, and Dale White’s Speedy Fellar #4, all make sense. Let’s use them all underneath, and let Dominguez do his job. Should be a fun one …
Wager: Trifecta Box, $2, w 1/1A/3/7/8 w 1/1A/3/7/8
