Delta Downs Picks & Betting Analysis for October 20

DELTA DOWNS Picks
One of the best kept secrets in all of Thoroughbred racing is back ... it's Delta Downs! Located near Lake Charles, Louisiana, the Boyd Gaming site features a 6 furlong "bull ring" that is ready for action. This week they are returning to running during the day, while they sort out the problems with their new lighting system. We will see how that impacts the rest of the Meet ...
At Horseracing.net/us we have you covered, including all of the action! It is a good time for some of the best that North American racing has to offer. Stay tuned!

Most Likely Winner: (Race 2: Bourbon Sky #6, 5/2):
By Sky Kingdom and out of Bourbonnmycoffee, this 2-yr-old colt appears ready for action in this MC20k event. He comes from the Bourgeois Barn, and the best news is that he already has his debut race out of the way. Running over at Evangeline Downs, he missed the board in that opening salvo … Now that is behind him as of early September, he should race nicely with expert DD rider Joel Dominguez aboard. He can get the job done with some superb ability at his side. Lightly-raced and with some good works under him … he should be fine.
Wager: $100 Win, #6
Off-the-Pace Play of the Day: (Race 6: Sobek #4, 8/1):
Though this 4-yr-old gelding only has 1 win in 14 starts, he did end up 2nd in 3 of his past 4 attempts. He looks like he is on the verge of a “claiming” breakthrough. I like his chances as he returns to Delta Downs. This is a track he knows, and trainer Veronica Davis should have him ready to go. Josean Rivera is not a top rider during the Meet, but he has some ability. This one should be able to handle the 2-turn mile.
Wager: Graduated Wager, WPS, $100 Bankroll, #4 ($10-W, $15-P, $75-S)
Spotlight Race of the Day: (Race 8: Dirt, 1 Mile, ALLW42k, 3+):
The “feature” on this afternoon card at Delta Downs is this ALLW Co. contest. By Vinton standards this is a large field—10 will go. It looks as though M/L favoritism will go to Charlies Ticket #4 at 3/1. The Louisiana bred by Sum of the Parts has a stellar record when it comes to hitting the board at Delta. However, he has not done much in the way of winning. It has been over a year since he visited a winner’s circle in the state.
Thinking more deeply, I am intrigued by Karl Broberg’s Got Kramer #6 and Oscar Modica’s Artic Rose #9. When it comes to the power stable in Vinton, look no further than Karl Broberg’s operation. It is continuing to expand by leaps and bounds. He sends a 3-yr-old gelding by Greeley’s Galaxy into the fold. In 6 starts, the colt has a pair of wins, a second … not too shabby. He is going to have to do more in this spot, but Tim Thornton is an aggressive rider who can get the job done. He will need to, if he wants to win on the class hike.
As for Modica’s charge, the gelding made the jump to AOC Co. after running primarily in the claiming ranks back at Evangeline. If he can take another step at Delta, it could be for a score with the venerable “G-Money,” Gerard Melancon at the controls. Both of these runners should offer some nice value. Let’s include them …
Wager: Trifecta Box, $2, 4/6/9
