Fourstardave Handicap 2021 Entries: Three mares set to take on the boys

Chad Brown Trainer

The co-feature on the card at Saratoga on Saturday is the $500,000 Grade I Fourstardave Handicap for older horses on the turf. Three mares have been entered to take on the boys and Neil Monnery thinks one of them may well be the choice. He has an overview of the race ahead of the full handicapping of Saturday's Saratoga card by our turf-man later in the week...

I am a sucker for enjoying it when the fillies and mares take on the boys and on Saturday in the $500,000 Grade I Fourstardave Handicap we have three who are set to go for it.

Got Stormy has already tasted success in this very race for trainer Mark Casse back in 2019. She came back to defend her title last year only to finish second to Halladay. This six-year-old returns to the Spa coming off two extremely disappointing runs but will still have plenty of support.

If a mare is going to upset the boys then I’d look no further than Blowout who looks like a real talent. This Chad Brown trained five-year-old has never finished lower than third in his career and in her only run so far in 2021, she dominated a very good field at Distaff Turf Mile on the Kentucky Derby undercard. Real good looking horse this and with this being a ‘Win and You’re In’ race for the Breeders’ Cup Mile at Del Mar - a win here could open up some very interesting opportunities down the road.

Chad Brown might have the best male and female horse in this field as multiple Grade I winner Raging Bull is also set to race on Saturday. This six-year-old blows hot and cold and is a tough one to read. Plenty of horse bettors have lost money backing him but he does have three Grade I wins on his ledger and all three have come at different tracks. His Saratoga record though is two for four having twice failed to win this very race but winning twice as a three-year-old back in 2018.

Bill Mott’s Casa Creed is coming off a Grade I win in the Jaipur International but at only six furlongs - is he ready to go a full mile? This horse last won at a mile or more back in 2019 and has seven defeats since. I’d struggle to believe this is a top play.

Brad Cox sends out Wise Dan Stakes winner Set Piece with this five-year-old gelding having a strong 2021 campaign so far. Three wins on the spin all at a mile or more shows a big step forward and that win last time out was by far his most impressive beating some good turf horses. One to certainly keep an eye on.

Field Pass and Whisper Not are also entered with Daddy Is a Legend the third mare set to take to the track for this one.

Our man J.N. Campbell will be covering the action at Saratoga on Saturday, so check back from late on Friday afternoon for his handicapping of this race...
