The Gulfstream Park Championship Meet is moving right along. Their Tapeta track is causing quite a stir. Is this the same Gulfstream as before? We shall see, once all the "handle numbers" come flowing in ...

At Horseracing.net/us we have you covered, including all of the action related to the Derby Trail! With the Holy Bull, Fountain of Youth, and the Florida Derby, it is going to be another excellent Florida Series @GP! It is a good time for some of the best that North American racing has to offer. Stay tuned!

Most Likely Winner: (Race 5: Whimsical Muse #5, 9/5):

This seems like an old school “no brainer.” For those of you that might not understand this turn of phrase, it means “an easy decision.” Gosh I am old … I digress .. Trainer Mike Maker … Jockey Luis Saez … Part-Owner Paradise Farms … yep, sign me up. Here is a mare by Oxbow that was 3rd last time out in a BT race going 1 1/16th. I think the cutback in distance on the grass should not be an issue. This team seems primed for a score in a race that is clearly meant to get her more experience. Maker has a plan, so count on it. If she loses a race like this one, then it is her own doing. Something most assuredly went south … I am going to hope that the betting public looks elsewhere, but do not be surprised if this one ends up close to even money.

Wager: $100 Win, #5

Off-the-Pace Play of the Day: (Race 8: Mill Lake Lady #5, 20/1):

Going against the favorites on the controversial Tapeta at Gulfstream might be a fool’s errand. But, when you like a horse … bet it. I am intrigued by Kevin Rice’s entry, a young filly by Poseidon’s Warrior. She has a bevy of races under her already, and her conditioner does not have too shabby a Claiming Game record (20%-235 starts). I do not see why she couldn’t improve off that last effort. The speed fig she posted was as good as ever. Jockey Chantal Sutherland was having a strong fall @GP, but she has since cooled off. Maybe she can get this sprinter into position, and really score a nice victory? Let’s hope so …

Wager: Graduated Wager, WPS, $100 Bankroll, #5 ($10-W, $15-P, $75-S)

Spotlight Race of the Day: (Race 9: Turf, 5F, OC25k, F&M 3+):

Here is a tough condition level, and what makes it really a challenge is the surface. The turf at this distance is not an easy one, and really to me, it comes down to the break. I am pretty interested in the style and ability of Phil Antonacci’s Abuse of Power #6. This filly by the fabulous Karakontie has some nice class lines, and even though she lost the lead back @Belmont in her 1st try for the barn, she kept on. The former Chad Brown runner gets Paco Lopez, and when he isn’t being punched by Irad Ortiz, he can be pretty effective. If you get 7/2 on this one, then she is a bet. I am also interested in the abilities of Mike Trombetta’s Honorgetic #9. This Honor Code filly stepped up in class at Laurel last time, and she showed some good energy on what amounted to an inferior grass course. People think the Maryland MT is rough; the turf is not much better. As far as a few others to place in the “show” category, I think that Saffie Joseph’s High Speed Stef #1, Jonathan Thomas’ Igloo #2, Jorge Duarte’s Strongerthanuknow #7, and Brian Lynch’s Mamba Wamba #8 from overseas, are all suitable. A nifty Trifecta Wheel should get the job done …

Wager: Trifecta Wheel, $2, 6/9 w 6/9 w 1/2/7/8

Enjoy another fab Thursday trackside for the Championship Meet! Best of luck on another run at Gulfstream Park!
