The Gulfstream Park Championship Meet is moving right along. Their Tapeta track is causing quite a stir. Is this the same Gulfstream as before? We shall see, once all the "handle numbers" come flowing in ...

One of my favorite Gulfstream angles these past few years is the “Pletcher gelding” one. For some reason, this HOF conditioner has a strong sense of where to point his charges. Once again, jockey Luis Saez is aboard, and we all know how strong his Meet is going. Right now, he is an elite rider with the ability to take over a race. Even though this deep route is a unique distance for North America, this gelding that is owned by the excellent Eclipse Thoroughbred Partners, can rate nicely. The up in class should not be an issue. This one … the Pletcher gelding angle … it's on!

Off-the-Pace Play of the Day: (Race 5: Flatbush #4, 12/1):
Looking for some value on this card, I am interested in the lightly-raced NY bred that is drawn in for this MC event. The colt by Flat Out has a bloodline that is strong, and the best news is that he already knows what is going on at the track … racing. Trainer Fernando Abreu has watched his charge gain in experience. Just because he has not broken his maiden yet, doesn’t mean that he cannot have a breakthrough in this contest at Gulfstream. Jockey Paco Lopez is aboard, and I trust in his ability. This one is going to be a great price!
Spotlight Race of the Day: (Race 6: Turf, 1 1/16th, OC16k, F&M 3+):
The “feature” on this Christmas Eve card is this turf race, which boasts an 8-horse field. When it comes to favoritism, I am sure that Mark Hennig’s Baseline Drive #6 will end up being on the top of the tote. Getting back to the grass after an off-track try at Aqueduct, before that, the filly by Point of Entry was well-heeled when it came to the blades of green. Dropping in class for this race, one has to think that Luis Saez will get the upper hand. His mount is pretty consistent, and will hopefully not drift towards odds-on. Let’s use her on the top of the ticket, and maybe some of the longer shots will help us out underneath. When it comes to “others,” I particularly like Brody’s Honor #1, Lookinlikeaqueen #5, and Causingahullbaloo #8. Each of these has their own attributes, and I think their turf ability is pretty sound. The best news is that Mark Casse’s #8 is going to be double-digits when it comes to the price. The able-bodied Shaun Bridgmohan gets the call on that daughter of Malibu Moon. It should be a fun race … what a present!
