Keeneland ... is where we set our scene ... The 1st weekend of the Spring Meet is a distant memory (even though it was just last weekend)! Now, both Wednesday and Thursday have come and gone, but we still have 2 more wonderful days left (Easter Sunday, 17 April is dark). With the Grade 1 Maker's Mark today, plus the Grade 3 Lexington Stakes on Saturday (the last KYD148 "Points" race of the season), it is sure to be a strong set of cards in which to wager.

We are going to spotlight a recent innovation ... the All-Turf Pick 3 ... a $3.00 minimum wager that paid handsomely after it was introduced last October. This version is anchored by the Grade 1 Maker's Mark Mile ... a must-see on when April rolls around.

At Horseracing.net/us we have you covered, including all of the action! It is a good time for some of the best that North American racing has to offer. Stay tuned! $3 Keeneland Turf Pick 3 Wager: (Races: 5-7-9)

—————————————

Leg 1: (Race 5: Turf, 1 1/8th, ALLW110kn1x, F&M 4+)

Today’s Keeneland Turf Pick 3 kicks off with a tough ALLW level grass route on the Haggin Course. Faint of heart … stay home … When it comes to a top pick, you cannot go wrong with Brendan Walsh’s filly by Kitten’s Joy, Flown #2. You might remember this one from last year when she ran in a pair of Arlington Park grass races (Hatoof S./Pucker Up S.). She hit-the-board in both of those contests, and then in November she was up against some tough company in the Winter Memories $150k at Aqueduct. An 8th Place ending to her year was rather sour, and it will be interesting to see how her ’22 campaign develops. Getting Irad Ortiz in the irons on the green is a boon, and based on her steady diet of works at Palm Meadows, I think she will be good to go. A pair of others that are worth a look include … Walsh’s other half of the uncoupled entry, Ocean Road #1, and Jack Sisterson’s Scarabea #3.

1st Choice: 2

Backup: 1, 3

Leg 2: (Race 7: Turf, 5½, Limestone S., $200k, 3F)

Shortening up … we will be sprinting on the Haggin, going 5½ in what might be the toughest race of the day … These types of races, especially with stakes company make it very difficult to “Single” when it comes to horizontal wagering. Local man Wesley Ward is bringing the hammer this afternoon, and he is not shy about wanting to put his name on yet another stakes race @KEE. You could make a strong case for Her World #2, Kaufymaker #3, or Ruthin #4 … each has pluses … the #2 won on debut @Mth last August and gets Irad … the #3 is classiest with Jose Ortiz … while the #4 is a Royal A alum and won @KEE last April in a romp—by 6-lengths … I am going against this trio, and instead, I am backing John Sadler’s Unbridled Mary #8. Owned by West Point T-breds, this late-running daughter of Maclean’s Music has done everything she has needed to do to get to the winner’s circle in her 2 lifetime starts. Shipping to Central Kentucky from SoCal for Sadler, she brings along her regular rider Joe Bravo. If she is ready to run … and I think she is … then, her blow-by speed could be the best weapon. They are going to go extremely fast up front, so let’s go with the closer! She will be a solid price, hovering around 6/1 …

1st Choice: 8

Backup: 2, 3, 4

Leg 3: (Race 9: Turf, 1 Mile, Maker’s Mark Mile (G1), $600k, 4+)

A true “feature” on this Friday card, the Grade “Maker’s” promises to be another storied battle on the Keeneland Haggin ... history books, ready? In the previous leg, we went with a SoCal import, but this time around, I am not going to support with a “Single,” Mike McCarthy’s Smooth Like Strait #6. I know he has a stellar career record (19/7-7-2), and over $1.4 million in earnings … However, lest we forget, the now 5-yr-old by Midnight Lute will be making his ’22 debut. If you are going to catch him out, then this is the race to do it. He doesn’t ship outside of the West Coast that often, so it will be interesting to see how he responds. Umberto Rispoli, who seems to have ridden this one forever, is going to be at Churchill very soon, but he still retains the mount for this Grade 1. Looking for other options, I am pretty excited to see Ian Wilkes’ gelding by Noble Mission (GB) ratchet up the class ladder for this race. Mira Mission #10 is the Scotty Scheffler of Keeneland … Like the Masters Champion did before he arrived at Augusta, this one has picked up steam with a pair of wins at Gulfstream Park. The Canadian Turf (G3) was a masterful ride by jockey Julien Leparoux, and I think that if he can make some well-timed decisions (either early or late), then this could be in very good shape, late in the game. Wilkes has trained this one nicely since ownership made the decision last year to shift him from Tom Bush. The entry that piques my interest the most is one of Mike Maker’s 2 runners. I am not talking about the classy Somelikeitbrown #8; rather, I am speaking of Three Diamonds’ Atone #3. An alum of both the Ft. Lauderdale (G2) and the PWC Turf (G1), this Into Mischief gelding has shipping ability, and the distance is right in his wheelhouse. Maker has a knack for surprising when you least expect it, and the choice of Tyler Gaffalione could be the best decision ever. He rides this course so expertly, and if he can settle his mount early … leaving enough in the tank, then it could be a victory! The “Blinkers” go on too … yet, another plus … Here is how we are going to end the KEE Turf P3 on this celebrated Friday …

1st Choice: 3

Backup: 6, 10
