Horse Racing Picks

Most Likely Winner: (Race 2: Warrior’s Remark #3, 5/2):

Trainer Denis Cluley has this gelding drawn in for an ALLW Co. race. An Indiana bred, he has what it takes to win a race like this one. In a Clm event last time out, he missed the board just barely. Now, he is trying to get back on track. With career earnings of only $36k, it is time to string together a nice set of wins. Ricardo Barrios will ride …

Wagering Recommendation: $100 Win, #3

Off-the-Pace Play of the Day: (Race 5: Kentucky Kitten #3, 8/1):

The long arm of the Ramsey’s Kitten’s Joy continues apace. As a sire, he churned out so many runners that it is just astounding … Here is one that is trained by Paul Overholt, and he is dropping down into an easier spot here. It will not be a victory if he doesn’t get a good break though. That will be the key for jockey Alex Gonzalez … if he can do some frontend running that may give him a tactical advantage. It has been since last November that his horse won … he is long overdue!

Wagering Recommendation: $100 Bankroll, Graduated Wager WPS #3 ($10-W, $15-P, $75-S)

Spotlight Race of the Day: (Race 1: Turf, 7F, ALLW21.2k, 3+):

The 1st race on the Wednesday card is this “spotlight,” and it has a nice group of 3-yr-olds and up going 7F on the grass. Voting Control #4 looks like a tepid favorite for the Hendriks Barn, and I am not sure I would trust his ability to deliver a win. Even though he was a member of Chad Brown’s Stable last year, in a pair of attempts at MNR, he has not really been much of a factor. Instead, why not focus on Burt Sipp’s runner—the able-bodied Mutashabeh #7. In the gelding’s last ALLW go, jockey Jose Leon was just up, winning by a head. If he can manage to harness some of that magic once again, then he might have a legitimate shot to make it 2/2. Sipp is also the owner … a phenomenon happening more and more in horse racing, owners and trainers being one and the same. Whatever the case, maybe Leon can get this one home, and we can have the Exacta!

Wagering Recommendation: $2 Exacta Cold, 7 w 4
