Oaklawn Park is situated in a "university town" of Arkansas ... no, it's not in Fayetteville ... this is in Hot Springs and it is a university town of horse racing ...
This celebrated southern town is playing host to an extended festival with their customary red carpet! Betting options are the best in the country! The home of Thoroughbred culture just hosted its own Derby Day ... But the Meet is not over yet! A 10-race card brings with it some great contests on the dirt!
At Horseracing.net/us we have the sport blanketed, including all of the action! It is a good time for some of the best that North American racing has to offer. Stay tuned! Most Likely Winner: (Race 7: Punchy Girl #5, 7/2):
In the $150k Rainbow Miss S., you could go in several directions, but the minute I saw Jason Barkley’s filly by Street Strategy, I knew this was the one I wanted to back. I remember handicapping her debut in December, and was game, finishing 2nd behind Derby Day Lassie. It took her a couple more races to actually break her maiden, but she did that in fine style around 2-turns in late February. That was against a heavy favorite in Sulwe, as she did all her work loose on the lead. With a solid work tab under her, I think she has what it takes to take a step forward in class. Elvin Gonzalez has a legitimate shot to get to the Larry Snyder Winner’s Circle. His task though … get to the lead …
Wagering Recommendation: $100 Win, #5
Off-the-Pace Play of the Day: (Race 9: Peace Dog #2, 6/1):
I am a “Big Fan” of this Arky Bred that is trained and owned by Ernie Witt. The colt has advanced nicely up the class ladder, and should continue to do so. It is not easy to go from the MC ranks into AOC Co., and finish where he did last time (2nd). This will not be an easy “ask” by any means, but jockey Alex Canchari is solid when it comes to exiting the gate. He has a chance to flip the script at a price!
Wagering Recommendation: $100 Bankroll, Graduated Wager WPS #2 ($10-W, $15-P, $75-S)
Spotlight Race of the Day: (Race 8: Dirt, 6F, OC25kn1x, 4+):
Out of these 8 older males, it is a good bet that John Ortiz will have the race time favorite in Rolling Fork #8. The gelding by Midshipman is one of those Shortleaf homebreds that has built a nice resume, primarily running at Churchill and in Hot Springs. I am not sure that Gabe Saez or this 4-yr-old’s form makes him odds-on or even 5/2 … Instead, I particularly like the look of Ingrid Mason’s Storm Advisory #3. The 10-yr-old gelding is not done yet with his career, and I would not write him off whatsoever. He ran in a much tougher race last time against open company, and my thinking is that he is fit as can be. The price will be right with Elvin Gonzalez aboard, and let’s also use Phil Bauer’s Majestic West #6 and Steve Asmussen’s Long Term Thinking #5. Both of those last runners I mentioned are going to have to raise their games, if they want to hit-the-board. It will not be easy, but they are in for a chance. I like a Super Box in a situation like this one …
Wagering Recommendation: $2 Superfecta Box, 3/5/6/8
