The top race for older fillies on Belmont day is the Grade I Ogden Phipps Stakes. With the likes of Preakness winner Swiss Skydiver, Kentucky Oaks winner Shedaresthedevil and Apple Blossom winner Letruska in the field - it will be a tough race to handicap but a joy to watch.

Seven have been entered and our editor has an overview of the field following the Post Position draw on Tuesday.

Saturday should be one of the best days of racing in the whole year as this Belmont card is absolutely stacked. This race however might be the best of the bunch.

We’ll start with Swiss Skydiver who of course beat the boys at Pimlico and took out the 2020 Preakness Stakes. She finished third last time out at the Apple Blossom which may concern some bettors but Kenny McPeek has subsequently come out and said he shouldn’t have run her as she wasn’t 100% fit due to a scratch on her right foot. Whether that is enough to get people to forget about being beaten by Lutruska and Monomoy Girl that day I’m not sure but I do think she’ll be a slightly bigger price than she should be in the pools. The daughter of Daredevil has not opened as the favorite on the Morning Line as she's a 5-2 shot.

Shedaresthedevil surprised everyone when she beat Swiss Skydiver and Gamine in the 2020 Kentucky Oaks. The daughter of Grade I winner Daredevil was unable to follow that up with victory at the Grade I Spinster but is two for two as a four-year-old with wins in the Grade II Azeri and Grade I La Troienne. She’s a better horse than we thought going into the Oaks and might well be the favorite come Saturday but the M/L has her at 5-2 along with Swiss Skydiver behind...

Five-year-old Letruska. Who may have something to say about that. She beat the great Monomoy Girl and Swiss Skydiver last time out. Any filly who can beat those two horses in a big race has to be taken incredibly seriously. She’s two from three so far in 2021 with her only defeat being to Shedaresthedevil in the Azeri. She's the 9-5 favorite on the Morning Line.

Three mighty fine horses lead the field but three of the four other fillies entered have Graded Stakes wins to their name

Todd Pletcher’s daughter of Tapit Valiance won the Grade I Spinster last year and came home second to Monomoy Girl in the Breeders’ Cup Distaff. This will be her five-year-old debut but has to be considered as a serious threat and her M/L odds reflect that. 4-1 her opening number.

Brad Cox will be sending out the Doubledogdare winner Bonny South. She also has back-to-back-to-back runner-up places to her name in the Alabama, Black-Eyed Susan and Falls City Handicap. At 10-1 she's considered a bit of an outsider but she's not one to ignore completely.

Queen Nekia took out victory in the Grade III Royal Delta down at Gulfstream in February but is a 30-1 longshot.

Water White returns to the Belmont undercard after a third place finish in the Acorn a year-ago. At 30-1 though she's not expected to be at the pointy end of the race.

So all in all - this is one helluva field and should be one helluva race.
