Pat Day Mile 2021 Results: Jackie's Warrior just about holds on

The Pat Day Mile is often seen as a race where the bulk of the field is made up of horses who were at one point on the Road to the Kentucky Derby. The 2021 edition was no different as the early favorite in the Futures Market Jackie's Warrior was in the field along with Dream Shake - who rose all the way up to number four in Sean's Top Ten rankings just a few weeks ago. So the scene was set for an epic race and boy did we get one.

Both Sean and myself were hoping to see Jackie's Warrior return to his two-year-old form. Going back to one-turn was sure to help but J.N. liked a long shot in Joe Frazier. As they came to post the hope was to see quality and that is what we got.

Jackie's Warrior under the guidance of jockey Joel Rosario set a scalding pace, the rest of the field struggled to keep up as the two-year-old darling of 2020 went about his business with gusto and determination. As always happens though someone was going to make a late charge and this time around it was the Peter Eurton trained Dream Shake who found pace to trouble the leader. They went at it down the stretch and somehow the favorite managed to fend Dream Shake and as they crossed the line it was Jackie's Warrior who had it. What an incredible race. Fair to say that it was the race of the weekend so far. It was a truly fantastic race and that final furlong was titanic.

Jackie's Warrior paid out $4.40 for the win with the $2 Exacta paying out $24.20.
