The Preakness Stakes may be in the fall this year but that doesn’t dampen our enthusiasm for what will be the final race in this elongated 2020 Triple Crown season.

Kentucky Derby champion Authentic leads the probables as trainer Bob Baffert has confirmed that he intends to run the multiple Grade I winner at Pimlico. His other Derby entry - Thousand Words - who was scratched by the vet just minutes before the start of the race is also firmly pointed towards Maryland.

Art Collector went into Derby week as the second favorite but a minor injury kept him from running in the Run for the Roses. His connections have said that the Preakness will be next up for him.

The horse that everyone wants to know the latest on is Tiz the Law. He left the starting gate at the Kentucky Derby as the odds on favorite but was unable to chase down Authentic coming down the stretch. He will work this week at Belmont Park, after which his connections will make their determination for his next run. He’ll either look good and get to go for the Preakness or he’ll be trained up to the Breeders’ Cup Classic at Keeneland on November 7.

Another name to watch is Swiss Skydiver. Kenny McPeek is once more playing the waiting game to see who else shows up for the race whilst he decides whether to enter his star three-year-old filly. His preference was to find a Grade I for fillies but with none available, the Preakness is one of three races under consideration along with the Spinster and Queen Elizabeth II Challenge Cup, both of those races are at Keeneland.

Mr Big News had a big run at long odds to hit the board at the Derby and he’s expected to run at the Preakness. The connections of Jesus’ Team have confirmed that he’ll be supplemented to the race and the horse that beat him in the Pegasus at Monmouth Park - Pneumatic - will also be entered for the according to trainer Steve Asmussen. Liveyourbeastlife will follow up his second-place finish at the Jim Dandy with a run at Pimlico.

We still have a good week before entries close but other horses being considered for the race include Mystic Guide, Happy Saver, Dr. Post and Ny Traffic.
