Regional racing along the Southwest Circuit is alive and well. With low takeouts, Sam Houston Race Park has an industry-low 12% for wagers like the Daily Double and Pick 3s, 4s, 5, and the Space City 6. There is absolutely no reason to wager.

With a solid purse structure, SHRP is now running 4 days a week until Closing Day in early April. Right around the corner is Texas Champions Night on March 26, and that should be an impressive card of races.

Join track announcer Nick Tammaro, and his sidekick, Trey Stiles of NHC fame, for "SHRP-e Time," as they rundown all of their selections. In addition, J.N. Campbell's selections will be featured on the Simulcast, as a bonus ... Let's get some winners!

At Horseracing.net/us we have you covered, including all of the action from SHRP! It's a good time for some of the best racing in North America has to offer. Horse Racing Picks

Most Likely Winner: (Race 6: Super Brady #9, 9/2):

We have both Brady’s back in action … “Tom” and this one, a horse named “Super.” I absolutely think that J.R. Caldwell’s entry will run circles around this field. The 5-yr-old Florida bred just did not have it in a turf sprint at Sam Houston back on 18 Feb. He lacked the necessary response when it counted, and I am pleased to see that the barn has decided to go with Lane Luzzi. That should help … if he can exit the gate in an orderly fashion, breaking from that far outside post, then he has more than a shot to win this race. Major bet … coming on this one!

Wagering Recommendation: $100 Win, #9

Off-the-Pace Play of the Day: (Race 2: Gold Vermilion #9, 6/1):

I am not sure I trust the turf riding abilities of Rodolfo Guerra, but this mount of his is just too good to pass up. I love wagering on a runner that was 4th in his last 2 starts because I think it speaks favorably to those “just missed” efforts. Running on the grass is highly unpredictable, and traffic troubles abound. Dallas Keen is a trainer with more than just a measure of conditioning ability, and this colt by Red Rocks has a solid green pedigree. If Guerra can somehow exercise patience, and settle his ride and rate nicely, then there is more than a chance. At odds of 6/1 or higher, I cannot pass this one up.

Wagering Recommendation: $100 Bankroll, Graduated Wager WPS #9 ($10-W, $15-P, $75-S)

Spotlight Race of the Day: (Race 9: Turf, 1 1/16th, Clm25kn2x, F&M 3+):

The finale on Thursday evening is this tough Claiming event for those that have never won 2 races. I am sure that Frank Lucarelli’s Stellaczar #4, the Davis Barn’s Cha Cha Mission #5, and Alejandro Baldillez’s Sip #8 will all contend for favoritism. Frankly, I do not care for any of them, since they all have a series of so-so performances. To be specific, the #4’s poor fitness, the #5’s lack of class, and the #8’s need-the-lead style … well, they are all concerns. I will use all 3 of these runners, but on top I am going with a longer shot. Turning to Ray Ashford’s entry, Brodie Baby #1, I like the fact that this young 3-yr-old filly is the only one of her age in the race. Yes, she is coming off a break, but her 2-yr-old Remington campaign had a nice set of attempts associated with it. This Florida bred has the speed to rate with a group like this one, and should get a solid stalking trip with veteran rider, Leandro Goncalves in the irons. The best news of all? Her age dictates in a condition like this one, that she gets a significant weight break (she only carries 115). That is a full 8 lbs less than everyone in this race. I think she has the chance to upend the favorites, and take home the prize. Here is the wager … what an angle!

Wagering Recommendation: $2 Superfecta Wheel, 1 w 4/5/8 w 4/5/8 w 4/5/8
