CLOSING DAY SANTA ANITA PICK 6…
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
LEG 1: (Race 6: Dirt, 6F, MC20k)
My Tigress #4, Umberto Rispoli/JJ Sierra (4/1)
Siena Silk #10, Trevor McCarthy/Ryan Hanson (6/1)
Notes: both these runners are lightly-raced, which is a solid feature in these MC events … Trainer Hanson pairs with McCarthy who is now putting down roots in SoCal …
Selections: 4/10 (2-Deep)
LEG 2: (Race 7: Turf, 1 Mile, American S. (G3)
Neptune’s Storm #3, Flavien Prat/Peter Miller (4/5)
Notes: Flavien Prat’s hegemony on the SoCal circuit is like the NE Patriots of old in the AFC East; Miller has the prohibitive fave in this one … it’s a “Single” …
Selections: 3 (Single)
LEG 3: (Race 8: Dirt, 5F, Fasig-Tipton Debutante S. $100k)
At the Spa #2, Tyler Baze/Jorge Periban (2/1)
Notes: Out of these young fillies, this Periban Barn member is graduating quickly from the MSW ranks into this “Non-G” spot … she has major speed and ability after breaking her maiden … Vet Tyler Baze is going to try to guide her to victory … short field, highly possible …
Selections: 2 (Single)
LEG 4: (Race 9: Turf, 1 Mile, Wilshire S. (G3)
Brooke (CHI) #2, Umberto Rispoli/Mike McCarthy (5/1)
Querelle #4, Trevor McCarthy/Peter Miller (12/1)
Leggs Galore #6, Ricardo Gonzalez/Phil D’Amato (3/1)
Stela Star (IRE) #7, Flavien Prat/John Sadler (4/1)
Notes: An open edition of the Wilshire (G3) is up for grabs … my lead horse is a mare out of No Nay Never … the accomplished conditioner, Mike McCarthy’s year continues to get better and better for the Preakness-winning trainer … good price on this former Chilean runner …
Selections: 2/4/6/7 (4-Deep)
LEG 5: (Race 10: Dirt, 6F, MSW61k)
Lisette #5, Umberto Rispoli/Paddy Gallagher
Shell Shock #6, Abel Cedillo/Carlo Vaccarezza
Rev Rita #8, EA Ellingwood/Tim Yakteen
Notes: Tim Yakteen has a filly out of Orb that looks like an excellent worker; this is her debut, but she could jump up at a square price and break her maiden … this is the toughest race in the whole sequence in my opinion … consider hitting the “All” button if you can afford it …
Selections: 5/6/8 (3-Deep)
LEG 6: (Race 11: Turf, 6½F, AOC20k)
Big Clare #1, Umberto Rispoli/Phil D’Amato (5/1)
Empress of Fire #2, Ricardo Gonzalez/John Sadler (6/1)
Shylock Eddie #6, Trevor McCarthy/Brian Koriner (6/1)
Gypsy Blu #7, Flavien Prat/Peter Miller (3/1)
Smiling Annie #8, Abel Cedillo/Mark Glatt (6/1)
After Midnight #12, JJ Hernandez/Carla Gaines (12/1)
Notes: Nothing like ending on a classic turf sprint @SA … leave no stone unturned, and that is what I have tried to do in this situation. I like Carla Gaines’ entry the most because of who is riding (Hernandez), and this young one is as fresh as can be. She was excellent as a 2-yr-old last season, and could mature into a top grass runner … time will tell … Good luck tabbing a winner in the last!
Selections: 1/2/6/7/8/12 (6-Deep)
