TAMPA BAY DOWNS Picks
Tampa returns with a Sunday card that has a full slate of dirt and turf events. Our turf-man has you covered. If you're looking for picks elsewhere around the country on Sunday, be sure to check out our Free Horse Racing Picks via the gold button below.
LATE PICK 4…
LEG 1: (Race 6: Dirt, 1 Mile, Clm10k, 4+)
The Sunday P4 sequence has some interesting angles in which to promote. I am optimistic that we can get this one home, but with so many claiming events… hmm… It is just going to take some sharp thinking, and a bit of luck. This first event brings together a solid crowd of 10k-ers. The top spot will most assuredly go to Mystic Link #7. I honestly, do not see anyone that can beat this gelding. Last out, in a St.Opt.Clm spot, he was 3rd, so the relief here will be welcome. Easy nod, right out of the gate.
Selections: 7 (Single)
LEG 2: (Race 7: Turf, 1 Mile, Clm16k, 3+)
I am not sure I trust many of these runners, since there seems to be no deserving favorite afoot. You could try to make a case for Violator #8, but he hasn’t won since breaking his maiden way back in August 2019. Not exactly some recency… The best course is to hit the “All” button, and that way, you are covered. Nothing easy about this sequence.
Selections: All (1-10)
LEG 3: (Race 8: Dirt, 1 Mile 40yds., Clm8k, 3+)
At this point, maybe we are sitting on a live ticket with a longshot that we just hit… If so, I want to go with the 2 M/L favorites, which offer 2 different options. One entry is trying to keep moving up in class (Private Astray #6), while the other is moving down (It’s Mandatory #9). All that action amounts to coverage, and if we can get either of this pair home, with only going 2-deep, then that adds up to a deal.
Selections: 6/9 (2 Deep)
LEG 4: (Race 9: Turf, 1 1/16th, Clm16k, F&M 4+)
The finale of this Sunday card is not going to let us off easy… I feel like I just submitted my MENSA application, while trying to program an old VCR. The trick here is to find a top pick, and then surround a handful of entries with a mix of “reliables” and maybe, a pair of boxcar longs. In that spirit, I want on top a longshot from the barn of Kathleen O’Connell. Shes Dynomite #10 finished 5th last time out, but that was an off day for the steady mare. She is much better than that, and I am hoping that she is somewhere around 15/1 when the bell sounds. That would be an excellent price for a conditioner that does many, many things right when it comes to turf training. Getting Hector Diaz to ride is also a bonus. Just in case she doesn’t get to the wire first, I also want to place these runners on the ticket… roll call, if you please… Over to You #1, Morgan’s Z Va #3, Marmalade #4, and Mad Grace #8. Those offer a range of prices, and should cover us, if our pick fails. Should be another blast at Tampa!
Selections: 1/3/4/8/10 (5 Deep)
