Most Likely Winner: (Race 5: Splash Cash #3, 7/2):

The favorite pick of the day at Tampa might not be the lowest one on the tote in this race, but make no mistake about it, this daughter of Uncaptured can win. Ridden by Samy Camacho, here is a 3-yr-old filly who looks to come back to Tampa rested and relaxed. When she was here back in February, she won nicely on the frontend in a solid dirt contest. A sprinter through and through, I think trainer Jon Arnett is smart to switch surfaces and make a run on the grass. The odds of 7/2 on the M/L might be above that mark when post time rolls around. Bet ‘em …

Wagering Recommendation: $100 Win, #3

Off-the-Pace Play of the Day: (Race 9: My Point Exactly #3, 8/1):

Not all racehorses have short careers, and lest we forget, at times they can run well into their 8 or 9-yr-old days. My point exactly … Here is a gelding who goes way back to 2012, when he came into this world. Since starting his career, he has turned in 76 starts to-date, notching 13 wins, 12 seconds, and 11 thirds. With nearly $522k in earnings, that is quite an accomplishment. Trainer Carlos David sends this one out on the Tampa turf, and I like this spot at odds of 8/1. Jockey Hector Diaz has lawn ability, and his decision-making at times can be spot on. I know it has been since 2020 that this one actually visited the winner’s circle, but maybe this is his chance at a condition level which suits.

Wagering Recommendation: $100 Bankroll, Graduated Wager WPS #3 ($10-W, $15-P, $75-S)

Spotlight Race of the Day: (Race 7: Turf, 1 Mile, AOC75k, 2F):

Before some of the big “East Coast” trainers arrive like Chad Brown, Tampa’s 2-yr-old turf races belong to one person … Arnaud Delacour. This time around in an AOC contest, he sends a young filly into this high-level event with much promise. Style #1 is owned by Peter Blum, and grass fans know what he brings to the table. As a breeder he has excellent stock, and this one by Union Rags already has a “Non-G” race under her saddle. The White Clay Creek Stakes though saw her finishing a disappointing 5th back in mid-October. Maybe she is ready to come back from that lackluster effort, and maybe not …

I think the same could be said for Tom Albertrani’s entry, Hail To #4. Sure, she is by super turf sire Kitten’s Joy, but that seems like a lifetime ago that sire was relevant. Her conditioner tried to get her 1st graded win in the Miss Grillo (G2) back at Belmont Park in early October to no avail. Finishing 5th (like Delacour’s entry) in such an upper echelon will make bettors swoon, but again, I am non-plussed. The plan is the same … look elsewhere, even with Jesus Castanon in the irons.

What I want to do is exploit the fact that both of these runners will be heavily bet, and take the rest of the field over them, in an exacta. I am hoping to load up and score a nice one!

Wagering Recommendation: $2 Exacta Wheel, 2/3/5/6/7 w 1/4

Tampa Bay Downs is back for another week of racing … enjoy some of the best that Florida has to offer!
